In one sense because it will probably be in an archive that can be searched somewhere, some-when.

Liz - I know I've probably been watching too many crime programmes on TV, but the police seem to be able to retrieve a lot of info from someone's laptop.

I agree with Tom in that information can probably always be found somewhere.

Remember, Big Brother is watching you.

Don't go scaring us all Jeannie! Maybe the internet is one sure source of fulfilling that saying 'Be sure your sins will find you out'. so be careful what you say - yes, but as we are all nice people surely we won't say anything that could get us arrested or jailed for life? Or am I being the same naive girl I was ?????? years ago.

If you go to http://www.cyprus44.com/forums/?page=553 there is what seems to be your first post.

To find other posts just change the page number. For certain, everything you ever said on Cyprus44 is still there for all to see.

And sitting in a deep cyberspace black hole is every e mail you have ever written! at least that is what some hackers would appear to believe and prove.

Lilli re msg 1

it depends where you posted on the internet

As has been pointed out - if the forum is still live - it will be there for all to see

If a forum closes - like the old MSN ones from the early noughties - some placeless gems are lost to us forever - after a while the search engines stop caching ( storing) the info.

Mark Msg 8 - I thought that there was some sort of web archive and I'm sure it has been mentioned on Cyprus44.

I agree about the MSN boards which were run by the likes of Dawn & Teresa back then. Most were very informative and civil places to meet and exchange understanding.

Waybackmachine is not the only but the most well know project to store and make available historic versions of websites.

There is a difference as well between public posted information, like that posted on forums and 'private' communications like email or messanger systems.

My dad told me in even in the 60s they had listening devices for Telecons. Certain words used in conversations are targeted.

JohhnyLee,

You're quite correct, and it still happens. No system is secure from being listened to. If they could be GCHQ in Cheltenham would be closed and hundreds of people would be unemployed. Also MI6 and MI5 would be out of business too. These days computers scan the air waves looking for key words and latch on to them.
