Disgraceful, even in India it would have arrived more quickly than that! Hope there was not a life depending on it.

This is one of my biggest concerns in Cyprus, but in 1987 my husband died because he had a massive heart attack and the ambulance took an hour to come. (this was after our doctor pronounced that he was suffering from a mild attack of food poisoning!)

So, it can and does happen anywhere.

What concerns me most is who will answer the question?

Can we be reassured that it is an isolated incident?

Anyone any experiences?

maybe due to a lack of proper street maps most people don't have a clue which roads there on and how to direct someone there

I can only say that I have had to call the 112 ambulance twice and on both occasions they arrived within 10 minutes. I did however have to call an ambulance for my mother when I was in the UK. Though a paramedic arrived within about 15 minutes and said we needed to get her to the hospital immediately it took a further 45 minutes for an ambulance to arrive. She then spent a further 3 hours in a casualty cubicle waiting for doctors and then another wait for a bed. Fortunately she survived the experience. When we arrived at the hospital here my husband was seen immediately by a doctor and was on the ward straight away. Similarly when I had to take him to Near East on a Saturday afternoon he was seen by three consultants within the space of about 30 mins. I can only say that, apart from the cost, the service here seems superior to me

I had to call an ambulance for a friend in Lapta last year and they were very quick indeed. I think however that it is quicker if somebody can arrange to meet them at some local landmark that they will know rather than them struggling to find an obscure address. I just arranged to meet them at the Belediye. Great service, no complaints at all.

I had an awful problem trying to get an ambulance to our house last year. The main problem was that we don't live near the centre of Alsancak but on the outskirts. The woman wanted to know where my nearest Supermarket was and such like. I gave her the exact address and tried to explain in relation to St. Tropez Restaurant. After 15 mins, she said she would speak to police. Eventually a neighbour went down to the Girne-Lapta road with instructions to stop the first ambulance that went by and bring it to the house. 50 mins later ambulance arrived but one nurse wouldn't come into the house because we had dogs and the gurney was broken and it took 4 people to carry him into the ambulance. The ambulance went so fast round corners that my husband nearly fell off the stretcher. When he got to Girne hospital, everything went into 5th gear and was treated very well indeed.

PS: One question she asked was "do you live near Ozankoy?
