My son intends to get married out here next year and wrote to the office of Mayor of Kyrenia/Girne for information regarding a civil ceremony in Kyrenia/Girne.

They received a reply from a lady in the South informing them about the invasion by Turkey in 1974 and the illegal occupation of the North of the island since then and that the legal administration of Kyrenia was in temporary office in the Government controlled area of Nicosia. Also that all documentation issued by the ' authorities in the North was not recognised by any other country.

It also directs them to another web site giving the history of Cyprus and said they would appreciate their senisitivity on this issue.

The web page is http://www.moi.gov.cy/pio

and is worth a read.

Perhaps there are those who could comment on the section, Cyprus problem.

Sub section. Refugees and Displaced.

It is a hard story to tell, everyone has their own views, the greeks and turks alike, to really understand the issues you really need to search and find the truth yourself, there are 100's od pages on the web from both greek and turkish cypriots views.

Typical one sided story. What about the ethnic cleansing that took place against Turkish Cypriots before 1974. Fortunately Turkeys timely intervention prevented the killing of all Turkish Cypriots on the island.

What's more to the point is how did a letter addressed to the Mayor of Girne reach the "Government in Exile" of Kyrenia?

One can only assume with regards to Msg 4: -

" What's more to the point is how did a letter addressed to the Mayor of Girne reach the "Government in Exile" of Kyrenia? "

That they Put Kyrenia instead of Girne and adressed it to CYPRUS instead of to Turkey, Mersin 10.

Not Rowan but Cassius using the other halfs addy.....

Bet they did not mention how they threw the TC'S out of government and spent the next eleven years persecuting the community.

As for how the letter was misplaced, I would take that up with the post office and don't get fobbed off.
