| Be Warned - my wooden gazebo has recently been attacked by some Carpenter Bees. These are native to North America but have somehow found their way to North Cyprus (Esentepe & Bahcel area). These bees eat into the wood and burrow holes all the way through the wood to nest and can do a lot of damage. Tell tale signs are lots of quite large circular holes in the wood (~12mm) and some yellow/brown staining underneath as the bees discharge their waste. You will also find a little pile of sawdust as well. I killed about 5 of them burrowing into multiple holes by spraying RAID into the holes with a straw. There are normally a male and female bee per hole and the best time to spray is at sunset when both bees will be asleep in the wood. Once you have killed the bees, it is essential you spray some RAID on a small tissue and squeeze that into the hole and then completely fill the holes to discourage any bees returning or any other insect/animal using the holes. Hope this post is useful. |
