I recently hired a car from Green Valley Car Hire ( at the Exchange, Alsancak) and was able to take it over to the South to collect visitors arriving at Larnaca. Worth knowing.

Never heard of that before, but sounds encouraging.

Did the car have red plates?

Yes, normal hire car. I had to get the free MOT certificate, valid 12months, and then bought a month's insurance in the usual way - 25 Euros.

Jilly 47 - good collar! Are any of the other companies offering similar - thinking of renting from Pacific or renting from the south because we have to keep popping to the airport for people and need the car. Anyone esle with similar experiences?

So for £20 a day rental plus the 25 Euro insurance (£22) you can have a day out in the South. Not to bad at all if you are on holiday and I don't know of any other rental agency that will publish figures that undercut that price either.

Question? What do you do with the remaining South side insurance after you give the car back?

Hi Jilly - we're planning to do the same thing next week to pick up guests from Larnaca - hire company have promised it won't be a problem and they will provide us with a letter of authorisation to allow us to take car over. Could you possibly advise what is the procedure when we get to the border - where do you do the insurance bit - I know there are a number of kiosks - do you use any particular one? If successful I will post on board to advise - it is a different hire company so looks like it may be becoming more available?

Thanks

The Hire Car company will give you a document which you take to the second kiosk. They give you the 12 month doc you require. You will need your passport and UK driving licence.

You then take this doc to any of the three insurance kiosks and get the insurance. I use Pannikos (I think it's that!! -it's the last one.)

I find the border police/customs officers very helpful. Don't worry, you'll be fine. The insurance offices are open 7am - 7pm, less at the weekend. The other office is more limited.

If you are picking up people later in the day, have a practice run to get your documentation. Jill.

They're all open Sunday mornings but the other bit isn't. Do it on Friday to be sure. Jill
