it is like an indefinite leave to remain without the rights to vote. However my reason for the post is more for green card which is the same only for the retired pensioners whom are not citizens.

white kimlik is more for gacos. ........or as we Cypriots refer to them........fijas

Oh deare, the translation I have is not clear at all. Can anyone summarise for me. For instance - who can stay for what for how long and why? And what does one do to get it.

Green card will simply be given to those who had moved and settled here after retiring or ones that made large investment (ie.bussiness) in TRNC.

Proof of your pension or investing a minimum of $500.000 would be enough to gain your green card. You'll have a citizens right other then voting and becoming a civil servant.

As for white card...........another step towards 'no solution is solution'.But then again that might be something good out of something bad,as far as I can see.It might even bump the property market again as far as the none-citizens are concerned.

now, who's got a cheap property for sale on a pre gC owned land?

So what is the real outcome here, Do retirees get a white card, if so how do they apply , what are the benefits, ie does that do away with the annual residency.

You comments (applicable only ) are much awaited.

This has not been passed yet so dont get too excited, there are mixed reactions from the various parties here and i am sure there will be lenty of opposition from the unions who are already complaining about mainland turks taking the jobs.

Looking back to when the TRNC stopped the issue of Permanent Residency due to a new system being formulated, I also looked at the changes to residency that occurred around the same time in Turkey. Now also looking at recent speech's made on the 20th and what is due to occur to the South in the coming year with regards to the EU, it all seems to fall into place with regards to the wish's of Ankara - maybe?

Not wanting to divert this thread on possibility of obtaining either a Beyaz or Yeşil Kimlik Kart there is much that has not yet been disclosed about either - however, it makes sence to issue the beyaz kimlik to all who wish a kind of permanent residency but who will have no say in the country's political life and no call upon the country's resources unless they are working and putting into the country as well. The yeşil kart seems to be more for those foreign investors who wish to eventually gain full citizenship and have therefore invested? My Turkish understanding

I can find no reference in Kibris or anywhere on line that mentions the "proof of pension" bit as per Yorg's post above but that makes sence as well. There is always a general question of "How much do we need to have in the bank to get residency" that has never been answered successfully and still remains a bit of a mystery. For myself the sum of £27.45 in a UK account and 1970TL in a local account, plus proof that my pensions are paid into my UK account seems to have always been enough and immigration are very happy with that. I would like to think that having moved here for life and shown that I am a responsible person - not been caught yet - who is more than able to provide for myself on my own pension income without being any burden on the country would be proof enough that I could be accepted for a kimlik of whatever color. One thing I note in Turkey is that if you apply for residency you can only gain 5 years if you have 5 years left on your UK/EU passport - wait and see?

Yorg, so you can be sure - Cyprus is for Cypriots and I agree that it should not bow to Turkey - however, in the same manner as UK is for British yet has eventually bent to the wish's of the EU, I can see that Cyprus will either bend to Turkeys wish or fall apart due to internal wrangling. There seem to be lots of steps in the direction of Turkey, made by the TRNC or pushed that way by Turkey, that are slowly changing the way the country is running. Perhaps the new idea on kimliks is just another one of those. I look forward to more information from any source with great interest.

Thanks all of you for some clarification. I am very disappointed that I came here to become a citizen within 5 years and that door was closed, as I closedthe door on earlier lives to see out my days here as 'a Cypriot by adoption'.

Now why oh why did David Haye get citizenship when |I don't think he wanted it? Do you think if I put the TRNC flag on my shorts I might qualify. ? O.K. a bit tongue in cheek, but it seems a little unb alanced. In Australia you can 'buy' your way in only to temp.res. No such thing as perm. res any more, or citizenship to some who went to Oz expecting to become citizens. But they areconsistent in their rules. The confusion here is the constant changes.
