Sorry mistymoppet it is what is likely to come that's the problem, as arrry says you can get Sky no problem several different ways and you will soon learn all about them. It depends what you want or need to be honest Digiturk does me ok. I watch far less TV here than I used to in the UK.

No problem pugwash

I actually looked for a search but it wasn't where I am used to it being on other forums, tI thought the one on the site was just a general search rather than for threads or I would of used that first before asking.

I'm not planning on a lot of TV but as I will be moving over on my own I thought It would be a good idea to have some TV so I don't feel lonely and isolated in a new country. I will want movies sport and to be able to watch things like House and CSI.

Hi Mistymoppet

re msg 8

You've had some sound advice as to who to ask about installing your dish to GET SKY..

You should organise your subscription before you come.. but bear in mind that you'll needa 4.2m dish to get BBC / ITV :(

If you want to get House / CSI - the SKY stugg and in HD you'll get more UK channels than any other offering with a well installed 1.8m

You are not supposed to get SKY in Cyprus - as SKY have only got the rights in UK / Ireland..

The only official sat tv providers are DigiTurk and Nova Cyprus...

You can get a lot of US / UK content via Arab pay TV services - but they also aren't supposed to cover Cyprus..

Why your question is 'contentious' is because we have a member who pushes the Arab pay TV service and normally jumps in at the mention of SKY ;)

You CAN share a Dish with neighbours - if you need to split the cost..

Also if the cost of Sky it too much (it might only be worth investing if you are staying long term) perhaps you could get say a Digiturk box for some general tv & then a dvd player, as there are dvd shops everywhere who can download and sell you all the new episodes of programmes such as House & CSI if you don't mind waiting till they have been shown and then catching up?

mistymoppet,

House/CSIs/Movies are all available on Digiturk, and a variety of other American crime and comedy programmes

Thanks guys

Are they in English or subtitled? I lived in Hong Kong for 5 years and hated watching everything with subtitles. Also do they have sports channels where I could watch the cricket and rugby?

Open to suggestions of good places to watch them out also where I wouldn't feel intimidated as a women on her own.

Appreciate all your help
