PRESIDENT Demetris Christofias and Turkish Cypriot leader Dervis Eroglu met yesterday in what was their second meeting on issues of governance and power-sharing, following agreements made in Geneva in early July by both leaders to intensify talks.



The meetings which are meant to run all day were over earlier than usual yesterday. According to Eroglu the meeting came to an end with the agreement of both leaders. No reason was given.

At the start of the meeting UN Special Representative, Lisa Buttenheim, addressed the issue of confidentiality during the process referring to leaks over the past few days as “very unhelpful.”





“And I have to say that apart from the fact that such leaks go against the spirit of this new phase, they are often taken out of context and are sometimes simply inaccurate,” said Buttenheim, who did not want to confirm where they came from.





The subject of confidentiality was also raised in the first meeting on Monday when Buttenheim said that the two leaders agreed that confidentiality about their discussion “will be a precondition for progress.”
