Subject: Fw: Hole in The Ground - Mari - I received this from a friend on July 19th - while I was abroad.

For those who may not have heard, our wonderful government in Cyprus stored 2000 tonnes of explosive, confiscated from a Cyprus-flagged ship sailing from Iran to Syria, and stored the 98 shipping containers in full sun at a naval base, adjacent to our main powerstation. We shall now have to exist for at least a year, certainly more, given the fantastic organisational capabilities of the government, with the loss of 60% of the island's generation capacity. Temperatures at the moment are 32C in Paphos, 35C in limassol, near the blast, and 40C + in Nicosia.As an aside, 2 1/2 years ago, the then defence minister stated that this cargo was so safe it could be stored in a residential area. 75 containers of gunpowder, the rest ammo an high explosives? Seems he was wrong. 13 people died in this explosion. A picture that say's it all.  Just follow the instructions on the site.
