why sad, competition is high around the Lapta strip and if something different is offered from the norm good luck to them.

Well emineden, where do I start?

Because Christmas is in December!

It shouldn't, if the true meaning is upheld, be commercial and it should be special.

Do something regularly and it loses it's value and meaning.

One of the reasons I like living here is because the commercialisation of Christmas doesn't, perhaps I should now say didn't, begin in August.

In the UK M&S are no doubt getting the Christmas cards out on display.

Birth of Jesus? No, now it all seems to be down to competition on the Lapta strip.

I say again SAD!

The true meaning of Christmas is, pardon me for being pedantic, a religious celebration. A special time for families, but not it seems among some of the ex pats in the TRNC! :-(

Genius... If I wasn't working away I would be there. It will probably feel more like christmas day than the day it self.

I will honour Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year."

~ Charles Dickens (1812-1870), English author. From 'A Christmas Carol'.

I wish we could put up some of the Christmas spirit in jars and open a jar of it every month."

~ Harlan Miller

In Dickens time Christmas spirit meant exactly that.

The spirit of Christmas didn't come out of a bottle and the message of "A Christmas Carol" was humility and humanity to all mankind.

Something we should try to achieve all year round IMHO.

So enjoy your August festivities and to be fair to all non-Christians, who may be at the Lapta party, I will say enjoy your hot Winter festival.

Try having fun at the expense of Islam see what happens, Christmas is a Christian RELIGIOUS EVENT to be treated with respect.

post 19 don't you think perhaps you should worry about yourself and how you want to live your life and allow other to do the same. If you're not interested then stay away but you really shouldn't expect to tell others what to do.

Well all you sceptics. What a howling success. The place was packed - not an empty seat. Beautiful food,

brilliant atmosphere and a lot of effort put in to decorate the place to look like christmas, we even had snow!!!!

Keep it up Yellow Orchid. This is the place to be.

It was a fantastic night, and looking forward to New Year party. The snow machine was brill everyone had great FUN time. There used to be a christams day at the Hut in Lapta when Paul & Anita run it and again it was different and everyone had a good time. I'm not sure about Paul as he was dressed up as father Christmas in the baking heat !!!

Glad you all had such a great time; only sorry I couldn't be there.

Please be sure to keep me posted about the forthcoming Easter celebrations, which by my estimation should be around the middle of December

I would have been there for the story, but was on the radio. Shame that! some good photos of living just what we expwerienced in Australia - but that was to make it authentic. Christmas in July is when the hotels, restaurant,s put up Christmas decorations and turtkey etc is servced. This is done because Christmas is kinda hot. So North Cyprus is copying the idea but not the temperature.

Wish I could have come, but to make it authentic Aussie style, you should have had a kangerooo and a koala! Next year??

the Christmas spirit cannot be artificially manufactured, but if people are sharing and experiencing joy, then the message is still kinda there - isn't it.
