There is alsoa Mermaid fabric on the road between Girne and Catalkoy. Coming from Girne it is on the right hand side, opposite the first garage.

This is indeed where most Turkish Cypriots (at least those living in Lefkoşa) buy their fabric.

Hi Elkiton,

Firstly I should tell you that the fabric shops are near the Ledra Street crossing (or "Lokmaci" as the Türks call it) in the centre of the old city ... which by road is about three miles from the Metehan crossing ... so please forgive me if I ignore your request to "expand on the Metehan area".

I see Elkiton that you live in Bahçeli, so I will give directions to the old city from the Buffavento road over the mountains:

- When you hit the Lefkoşa-Mağusa road, turn right at the roundabout in the direction of Lefkoşa.

- Go straight over the next roundabout and then straight over the traffic-lighted junction sign-posted "Küçük Kaymaklı".

- A short while later along this main Mağusa road you will come to another traffic-lighted junction sign-posted "Lefkoşa". TURN LEFT AT THAT JUNCTION. It is actually possible to filter left before you get to the lights.

- Continue along this road for a couple of miles, passing over two roundabouts in the

(Continuing from msg 12)

- After the said "couple of miles" the road becomes a one-way (albeit very wide) street.

- After it becomes one-way you should take the second left through the historic Girne Gate.

- Drive for about 100 metres along that road in the direction of the Venetian Column.

- At the column, fork left.

- You should now see the Saray Hotel in front of you.

- Just before you reach the hotel you should turn left into a narrow street.

- After about 50 metres, you'll see a car-park on your left. I advise you to park there.

- Walking out of the car park turn left.

- Walk along this road keeping the historic Büyuk Han to your right.

- After passing Büyuk Han you will come across Arasta Sokak ... and that is the street where you'll find the fabric shops.

- By the way, at this point you are less than 100 metres from the Lokmaci crossing.

By the way Elkiton, my soon-to-be-TC-Father-in-law told me over breakfast this morning that there is probably a better selection of fabric at the Toros Centre on Dereboyu Caddesi in Lefkoşa.
