I have looked at the forum and it is clean and neat and I like the look of it - well done !

Simple concise mission statement and forum rules.

It looks like a forum for decent people - will it succeed ? I sincerely hope so !

It's biggest asset is Dave Gurr who, has proved himself to be an excellent moderator and who is level headed and impartial.

IMHO, not many others could have done or, can do, the same job, to the same standard.

Use it as it should be used - as a source of information and not as a source of entertainment !

Good Luck !

Position of the Dutch within the Nazi ideology

Another aim of the German occupiers was to dissolve the Dutch nation and make it part of a greater Germanic, or Aryan, one. The German officials, including those of the SS, Arthur Seyss-Inquart, and Adolf Hitler himself regarded the Dutch as part of the Aryan Herrenvolk (master race).

I think this says it all,. lol

@ msg 16, GinaC: (...) I am quite happy to provide a valid email address but not so sure about providing my telephone number. How secure is this personal information, how many people will have access to my personal telephone number? (...)

▶ Three people: Dave Gurr - AJ here, Hans Doeleman - DutchCrusader here and Erol Ziya- Erolz here.

The (mob) phone number will only be used once and never for any other purpose than to verify with a text message the identity of a new member. We don't want double/triple ID's, temporary email addresses and what have you.

It's a lot of extra work - but we find a clean member list a serious matter.

I hope this answers your question.

Yes, there is a drawer full of old phones and sim cards in our house too, but the fool proof phone number system of joining an elite forum is the result of some considerable brainstorming sessions and is as paranoid and pathetically childish as it should be when you consider the source from whence it came.Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha...

This is comedy gold.

Who in their right mind is going to give their real phone number to a bunch of real live numpties on the internet with nothing but a solemn promise not to reveal it or use it more than once?Oh and promise never to make a joke or ask anyone a question about anything other than TRNC?Do you want my credit card number and my bank details Big Brother?Do me a favour and do one Hahahahahahahahahahahaha...

For myself, the two things that put me off joining (or trying to join) was the very patronising title of the post (which Hans has now distaced himself from - fair enough) and having to provide a mobile telephone number.

Hans I understand your reasoning and your promise that the number will only be used once but it is the retention of such personal information that really concerns me. If you get 1000 members your system will hold 1000 telephone numbers available to 3 people or more if the system for example gets hacked. It's easy to change an email address should I start receiving spam but not easy nor cheap to change my phone number if I start getting pranks call, plus the added issue of letting all my contacts know my new number.

It is my opinion, that it would take an "aesthete" (for HEAVENS sake)! to think up a heading such as this thread has.

NO-ONE in their right mind would give their mobile 'phone number to one stranger, let alone a bunch of them - even those not computer literate are well aware that if the NHS and Government and goodness knows who else, can't keep the most private, sensitive information safe from hackers, or because they leave un-encrypted discs on back seats of cars, why on earth would we trust this information wouldn't go the same route? I am circumspect to whom I give my mobile number; and find this edict bizarre to say the least - totally the product of muddled thinking.

Time and time again people are warned NOT to make public private email addresses and mobile telephone numbers over the internet (business is different).

There is also another warning that should be taken seriously never use an off the shelf Will, especially in a foreign country, complete madness

Hi

Anyone who has problems registering you can email me on erolz@cream.org

if you get the message

"One of your responses below was not correct."

Then that reffers to the visual 'peoplesign' authentication at the bottom of the screen. You need to click on the picture that best matches pictrue 1 and then 2

Any other problems should have a specific error message like

The username you entered is too short.

The password confirmation you entered is too short.

The e-mail address you entered is too short.

The field “Mobile Phone Number” must be completed.

I will try and change the message for failed peoplesign problems, as it is not clear at the moment.

@ msg 37, GinaC: You're right - although too suspicious, I think - after verifying the identity of a new member via a text message the mob phone number should automatically be deleted from the database. I will contact Dave Gurr and Erol Ziya (members of the Cyprus Now team) asap to propose this. Thank you for your remark.

I have tried my best to ensure all personal details are secure. The mobile phone number details are only accessable to the admins of the site and no other members can see them. Of course any site may be subject to a 'hacking' attack, as many and constant news stories about high profile sites being hacked show. There is some risk that as a result of something like this you mobile phone number could be obtained by such a hacker, but the risk is pretty low I would estimate. However if providing your mobile is a problem for you then try emailing Hans - there may be other means to 'verifiy' your identitiy, than using a mobile number that both of you are happy with.

Just a note about the use of mobile phone numbers for registration.

Will such stop every and any attempt to set up a multiple ID. No it will not. Will it make registering multiple accounts harder, requiring more effort from those seeking to make multiple accounts, thus reducing the amount of such. Yes it will, I believe.

It is not a perfect system, no such perfect system exists that I am aware off. It is pretty 'experimental' as well, but we have diecided to try it and see how it goes.

Roomy just for the record I am no ones 'lacky'. I help people, its what I have always done. I have helped many others before this current venture by DC and AJ and will doubtless help others in the future. I would even offer to help you, should you ever want to set up a forum and wanted such help, though if that did happen I would object to being called your lacky.

Do you think I only offered to help with this forum to ingratiate myself with DC and AJ then and for no other reason? Is that what you are saying? Do you think all the others I have helped in the past was for the same sole reason, to ingratiate myself with them ? It all feels a little harsh and unfair Roomy. Is it not possible I help people because I get personal satisifaction from doing so ?

Registered with Nethouse - they have my phone number. Registered with the police/immigration - they have my phone number. Registered with a bank - they have my phone number. Registered with the telephone (landline) company - they have my phone number. Registered with Erdener Market for customer satisfaction - they have my phone number. This is a horror story!!! Is there anyone who has not got my phone number yet? If so, why is it I have not registered with you?

There is only one way you can beat electronic security and only one way you can stop people contacting you - once you are in the box and under the ground you are safe! Drastic step to take so think I will just answer my phone when the caller ID tells me who is calling and I want to talk to them - simple. Of course text msg's are different, they can be used in a court of law and the owner of the sending phone is always held responsible for the content of such - its a grand world!

Roomy msg53 "erolz, your overtwhelming desire to be liked, respected and accepted manifests itself in your obsessive behaviour."

I do not think I have an overwhealming desire to be liked, nor do I think my behaviour is particularly obsessive, though I can be stubborn as a mule, which may be a form of obsessive behaviour.

Can I ask have you ever turned you skills at analysing peoples personalites through their posts on this forum to your own postings? You do after all, I think you would admit, have a rather distinct pattern and style of posting. If you were to look at shuch and imagine they were from soneone else, would you detect any obbsessiveness in them, or a need to be noticed or liked? Just curious.

I wish "good luck" to all people concerned with the new forum. As someone said, there is room for more than just one form in any country or state, so I praise the stance of "No1 Doyen" who has allowed this thread to run thus far - well done mate! However, I hope our fellow posters from the other forum, act sensibly and do not use this thread as an ongoing free advertising board (as rivals).

Finally I would advise the new form owner's and/or admin, it is highly unusual to ask for one's phone number when registering with a forum. As part of my EPR activities, I must be a member of 200 forms or more! Never heard of any such thing.

Most forums have software that automatically register ISP addresses of new members visiting the site via the IP. Also using one's confirmed email address, they can identify the client address. In fact, every time you post, your ISP registers. So when they wish to ban someone, they can stop him logging on by just using the ISP information (cont)

It does not matter then, if they use a different email address or ID, they cannot log on! That is of course, if they are using the usual office or home local area network. Hypothetically speaking, they can go to an internet cafe or a friends house, register a new email address, and log on from there with a different ID - then they can participate in the forum. But 2-3 more bans and the person will soon run out of options. But, it sure would be a major obstacle in the way of any forum abuser!

bigoz the requirment for a mobile phone number is indeed atypical and personally I am interested to watch how it works or not as time goes on.

However tracking users based on IP addresses is very limited in reality. Firstly many ISP's these days share a single external IP address amongst large numbers of different users. Any block on such an address would affect not just the 'offender' but also potentialy many other 'innocent' people. Also it is fairly easy to mask your IP address, without having to use a different internet connection, like in the office or a net cafe.

I do not know if the current system will 'work' in the medium to long term but I do think it is worth trying it and finding out.

Dutchie,

In your new forum rules it states that members must not be abusive.

Will you be granting yourself membership considering all the abusive posts you have posted on C44.?

Personally I dont see a problem.

If you want to join the forum you give a telephone number, the choice is yours.

I admit that it unusual to give a mobile number to join a forum, but if this is seen by the founder members as a way of cutting out the problems, so be it. Who knows, other forums may follow suit?

Personally I believe some will slip through, whatever and hopefully decent moderation will quickly sort them out.

Good luck to CyprusNow.info

erolz;

This has been successfully practiced all over Europe! There are many ready made Forums (mostly supplied from US) that can automatically register the internet connection via the ISP, each time you log on! Each local (home and office) internet connection has its own address (number) registered with the ISP (Internet Service provider). So, access to who to block is gained through the ISP info. Only the computers on the network of a workplace or at home is blocked for connection.

As for internet cafe's - most forums would only be too happy, if no one could log on from such addresses - so banning the address for the whole place would not be much of a concern. Besides, what fool would go and spend hours and hours at a different internet cafe every few days, just because they want to participate in a form? If they are that desperate, they would soon learn how not to be abusive!

" Quality people??" Who is qualified to say who is in that category? Why don't all those who are moving to the other site just clear off and leave this board alone!

When I connect to the internet via my ISP I have an internal private IP address assigned to me by the ISP and also an external public IP address that I use when connection out to the rest of the internet. My ISP maps one to the other. The forum software we are using only sees this external public IP address and this is often shared amongst many users these days, increasingly so as the scarcity of such addresses increases.

If there is a standard system whereby a user connecting to the forum presents both this external public (and shared) IP address AND the private internal (not shared) IP address the ISP gives them, then I am not aware of such a system. I will however investigate further. If it is possible to track and block a specific internal private IP address for a given ISP then this would indeed make the use of such IP blocking more practical.

The title of this post was written by one person only, so to cast other posters into the same category as that person is muddled thinking. Either she (I am assuming it is a female from the name) is vacuous enough to believe she is one of those 'quality people' and wishes to be seen as such by others, or she really is intelligent enough to understand that such a title would immediately turn off a particular percentage of readers, and has posted thus on purpose. Either way, it is not impressive.

I wish the new forum success too, for there is unfortunately no shortage of inane, unpleasant, arrogant, superfluous or mischievous threads on this one. Unfortunately I don't have a mobile phone number, so I can't join.
