So if you had the chance what would you change and why? What would make things better?

For me it would be to :

1. Do away with the PTP system. Obvious reasons.

2. Insist on all new builds having solar energy and older houses offer grants toward solar power. Nuclear power , no thanks.

3. Make everyone recycle. For a cleaner more attractive country.

4. Deal with the stray dog situation. Kinder that way.

5. Open the crossing points fully without restrictions. To allow people to mix and make up their own minds.

So what are your five?

For me,it would be for Northern Cyprus to be recognized by the world & all embargos lifted,

Non stop flights, with other airlines flying to the north.

well known brand name shops would start opening up here.

Cleaners would be employed full time to clean beaches ect

More walkways,so people can take a stroll in the evening other than the harbour

I think that could be a good answer pipie.

Interestingly the Pet Passport are written in Greek, Turksih and English. As all languages are languages of Cyprus i think everything here on both sides of the island should be written in all three.

I am with magic re the rubbish, the place resembles a cesspit. I made one of my infrequent forays off the Karpaz this am and saw a picnic area (Iskele Council) on the beach side opposite the hunting shop. Had a look and found miles and miles of crap (there were bins, but to be fair no instructions in Turkish on how to use them). Have these people no shame......And before some moron says it could be Brits, we all know it isn't....Not how we were raised (well most of us anyway)!!!!

I first visited TRNC in 1999. I decided then that I liked the place, after living in Africa for 12years from 1976 to 1988 and then Sultanate of Oman, where I still work. (I had also visited RoC in 1990 and 1991)

I bought a place in Karmi/Karaman in 2008 and hope to end up there permanently in 5-7 years time.

Wherever I have been in the last 35 years I have always remembered what an old "Africa hand" said to me..."Don't try to change anything in the short time you are here. You will go and the people here will carry on in their own way..no matter how much you think you have changed them!"

I don't want to change things. I don't think I have the right to anyway. I accept places for what they are and don't see the point of wishing for this or that.

I'm happy with this..Ok?

Still no ex-pats here just some people trying to invent a nose up title on themselves and create a difference to the Cypriots (creates the attitude among the Cypriots that foreign people are second class). The foreign people here are just living here by choice and that does not create an ex-pat. The rest is up the the KKTC government and their rules and laws as residents and visitors we have to obey.

The rest is just dreams and waste of time

What would I change?

A pointless question, methinks, as all the sound advice already proffered to successive governments by the likes of Marian Stokes [Homebuyers Pressure Group] - enough advice to cure the ills of the property industry - has been totally ignored.

So, what chance does any 'Joe Blow', 'Charlie Negwort', or 'Gary Monger', have?

Two thirds of 'stuff-all'!

1. The gross indifference and job skills of public servants.

2. The who you know not what you know practice that is forcing our brightest young people to seek employment abroad. And costing the state millions.

Why english mess.7 ??

This is not an extention of England

Sometimes I miss a good conversation in English or German, but I know I could never live in or around Girne because there are too many people trying to turn it into mini England. I know I am not a Brit by birth, but my husband is and he thinks like me on this subject. We came here because we liked it and then we want to change it into the place we left!!! Which we presumably didn't like as much at that point.

I don't think anyone want the TRNC to change into England, but there is only so long you can go on for until something has to give.

The property market is over, the country is broke, minimal tourists are coming, could it not be time for change?

As I've repeated, 'ad nauseam', the 'Rich Club/Powers That Be' consolidated their wealth in the property boom years - so it's hardly surprising that they are maintaining their 'I'm alright, Jack!' attitude towards their fellow countrymen - so much for TRNC 'national pride'!

'Whoops-a-daisey!' another chucked 'Coke' can, from the 'Porsche Cayenne' in front, just bounced off my windscreen!

Certainly the litter problem but an overhaul of the legal system that does actually give people rights and is not discriminatory by being based on who you know, rather than the details of the case.

When nepotism and corruption, which, it goes without saying, 'go hand in hand' and 'feed' off one another are addressed, only then can there be change for the better. Since these are endemic, there can only be further deterioration.

Is it so wrong to want the TRNC to improve in ways that will make life better for all not just expats? Is it really OK for the 'I'm all right jack' expat brigade to denounce anyone who dares to seek positive change?

'My friends, countrymen, ladies & gentlemen - let me say, right away, that I do not consider this temporary lapse in the property development industry to be of any significance - we, the government, at this present point in time and having taken full note of your concerns, are currently addressing this most serious issue to the very best of our ability. We are all susceptible to this temporary glitch in our economy, which is facing us all! If what I am saying is challenged, I am only too ready to meet such a challenge. I am saying to you - we must build, but we must build surely!'

'What about the landowners, developers, builders, contractors, estate agents and advocates?'

'What about these people indeed, sir! Let me, at this point in time, allay your concerns and assure you that there are, indeed, better days to come - days that will, in due course, be so bountiful as to enrich and benefit us all - all we require is only the patience to wait to harvest our just rewards!'

Why ask the question " what would we change" when we should all be aware by now that there is nothing that will change for the better throughout the whole world not just the TRNC ? Confirmation of this is available simply by listening to the world news now and again, even the sanitized Euro version. The whole world is going madder than it has always been and we are all doomed, doomed I say (Wildebeest (bless yer), can I have another EFES from the fridge please?)
