We are holidaying in Lapta in a month's time. Have been to TRNC before but his is our first time in a villa, and with children. This time we won't have the assistance of a hotel or tour rep so would be grateful for advice about where to seek help if one of us falls ill.

I know where there used to be a hospital in Girne (near the post office & dolmus station) but can you just turn up there, or is it better to attend a local clinic/doctor ? Can anyone recommend an English speaking doctor and dentist for emergencies, and include basic directions to find them ? Obviously near to Lapta /Alsancak would be a bonus but we will have a car for most of the stay so could go further afield.

We have full medical insurance but not sure how the system works locally. Is it a case of pay up front and sort it out when we get home?

All advice much appreciated.

Hi there Greycat,

I live in Lapta and should an emergency arise I am a UK trained nurse with current NMC registration. You can phone me on 0533 884 5621.

Depending on the nature of the emergency I should be able to help you find what you need.

Sorry I should have added most times you do have to pay up front usually they will take a credit card, and then sort it out when you get home. Always a good idea to inform the insurance company that there is a problem as it happens.

For minor illness the pharmacy is pretty good.

Something more serious go to Girne hospital.

Hopefully you won't need either.
