I would like to know the same thing, i was going to have a 1.8mtr offset dish installed as i have been told this will allow the pick up of some of the channels broadcast by Sky...??

do you mean free 'sat' or free 'view' ?

You can use a 'sat' box for the free to air channels, but you don't get them all.

Free view will not work as is broadcast from ground stations in the UK

wise words Dee, I think if people looked into it more, they would find it very easy to split costs and share a dish. We give a connection to our neighbour who had Icey run a high spec cable about 40m and they get a great pic, people don't need a dish each if they can locate one between 3-4 houses.

Freesat box from UK will work in Cyprus but to receive most of the channels you still need a 4.2m dish.Not much available for 1.8m dish with this box.

What people should understand is,the reason we need a huge dish for most UK channels is because EU say UK channels which are transmitted clear are to be limited to UK viewers....We are lucky to be able to pick up these channels with a 4m+ dish cos the signal is not transmitted to this part of the world..

The 1.8m dish can pick up plenty of SKY channels because being encrypted does not limit SKY from transmitting the signal to a wider area..
