yep you heard it right my youngest son managed to get hold of this spitting brimstone and fire kitten that had been crying for days under an olive stump. it unknown to him got its leg tangled in those horrible thistle things and council strimming cable. He managed to free it from the stump and we were able to catch it by the old stick under a box trick with some food down as it was very thin. We caught her and removed the nylon and thistle with scissors and she seemed fine but hungry.

It seemed to recover and was being fed and imagine our horror when we saw her with the back foot hanging by a thread and the bone was out of the stump! We are of course trying for last couple of days to catch her and get her to vets. im not sure if she is in pain as she is walking on the sticking out bone but the risk of infection must be high.Itlooks as if she has chewed her own foot off ive never heard of cats doing this.

will keep you posted as this girl is a real cutie and a fighter pics to follow

Good luck with trying to help this little kitten - what a horrible thing to have happened to her. Really hope you manage to get hold of her soon so she can get the treatment she needs.

Cyprusairsoft. We had the same thing three years ago. Our friends were going back to uk after staying in their villa for three weeks and feeding two kittens. On the last day one of them turned up screaming with her leg hanging off. They took her to the vet who amputated the damaged leg and guess who ended up with her!!! She too is called Peggy and Pertev knows her well. Get her as soon as you can though because her leg was amputated up to the first joint which did not heal for months, so we ended up with another trip to the vets to get the whole thing amputated. She is now a little dynamite and we have always said if she had four legs she would be lethal !!!!! Well worth the time and effort.

good for you whistler and the good news is we managed to capture her yesterday evening.

the vet has looked at her and cleaned the leg which is a little gangrenous but he thinks with a steroid injection new skin may form over the stump.

we are keeping her at home and she will have to have it cleaned everyday but anti biotics flea jab etc all administered. she is a little sorry for her self but fast asleep now on an old tee shirt

fingers crossed no amputation. looks like we have another addition to household

think this little kitty deserves a real chance

named her peg for obvious reasons photo to follow

thanks everyone so kind shes back to vets this morning for a cleanof the stump and check up

yesterday she changed from spitting fire and brimstone to a snuggling up purring little kitten

it amazes me her spirit and how quickly she realises she is being fed and cared for

vet say if the leg as a last resort does have to come off it will be high up due to the small size of her.

fingers rossed it doesnt come to that.

Thanks to KAR for lending us the trap we will let you have back asap as she is sleeping in it at mo

I'm following this little cat's progress with interest and pleased she's doing so well.

As someone else has already mentioned, if she does have to have the leg amputated, cats are very good at coping with life with just three legs and with her fighting spirit, I can't see she'll have any problems at all.

Well done to you for your kindness and good luck to the kitten - not that I think she needs it

Cyprusairsoft. Please dont worry. We struggled with a stump for about 8 months and it just would not heal due to the fact that she kept knocking it whilst trying to use the leg normally. It would not stop bleeding.

I felt the leg should have been amputated from the top at the beginning because once this was done, she never looked back. She climbs trees, walks along the top of fences, runs like a hare. If I knew how to post photos I would send you some. She`ll be just fine.

We have two cats with only 3 legs and as Whhistler says, they never look back.

Up and down trees, in and out the cat flap, they keep up with their four legged friends no problem!

interesting she has a very red looking stump which in not bothering her the gangrene seems to be going

its weeping a little but she is having steroids to form new skin.

she is eating happily purring a lot and generally being a kitten

the vet is loathed to take leg off as she is so small and the anesethic might kill her.

perhaps she will have to have a carbon foot !!!

got some pictures will upload soon

the stump is being immerssed in iodine daily to keep clean

Cyprusairsoft,

What a lovely, kind, thoughtful person you are. I was in two minds if I should read the post as I am a bit of a softy when it comes to cats, but so glad I did.

I hope all continues to go well.
