I've seen green ones all over with the name of the appropriate belediye written on them. There's also some highly coloured ones dotted about which I assume are private ones.

My question is therefore is it a simple case of asking the belediye if you can have a wheelie bin? And, will they charge (deposit or something). There's nothing on my street and my landlord has said that I should just put out black bin liners. You can imagine the mess with the cats and dogs roaming about and if bins were provided I might be more inclined to clean up the street for them a little more!!

Local belediye will provide, at a cost depending on size. However, you should check the bin will be emptied on a regular basis before parting with cash. Alternative is to bag and use supermarket bins.

Check whether they actually empty bins in your street. It took us nearly 5 years to get Alsancak Belly to come up to our house. Bins can be obtained at almost all Yapi Markets and vary from 90tl upwards, or thereabouts. The really large ones (not domestic) seem to be in the region of 550tl.

I paid for a bin at Karsiyaka office of Lapta Belydesi last Friday, cost 128TL. Said it would be delivered on Monday, but she did not say which Monday! Still waiting. Also told it would be emptied twice weekly, but will not hold my breath as there have never been collections round our area. Hopeful that since they have greatly improved our access recently that we might now get collections. (OK, I know, I am a poor deluded fool if I believe that!) Power of positive thinking might work though.
