With the volatile security situation still pertaining in British cities , I think that the Police there need to return to basics and enforce the law ! The change in name from Police Force to Police Service has also signaled a change in emphasis with regard to measures to deal with the current lawlessness. a softly softly approach is not working and harsher methods are required ! In my opinion, the Police anywhere cannot SERVE the entire community only the law abiding majority.. while a Police Force can keep the community safe for all !! What do You think, folks ?

Very interesting post. What prevents them being a 'force' i guess is the Human Rights Act.

Agree totally. Also the punishment needs to fit the crime not the criminal, regardless of who they are or what colour they are or how poor they are or how deprived they are or even how misunderstood they are.

Msg 2,

Bill, I don't see the Police in other European countries holding back in their response to rioting etc. Where civil disorder occurs the authorities have a duty to the citizenship to respond promptly and effectively and why should the lives of ordinary frontline Police officers be put at risk ?

EamonnMc. I agree with you but the UK is too politically correct to allow force to happen. It's wrong I know but what can we do?

My daughter went to college and did a uniform service course. Therefore, most of her friends are now police men/women. One of my reactions to the riots, as you can immagine, was for the safety of these 'kids'.

Tell me why they should put their lives at risk, when the rioters get to court, what punishment will they receive?

Crazy laws.

I totally agree, I can already hear the "do-gooders" girding their loins and preparing to roll out the tired old mantras of their ilk..".society is to blame, they are socially deprived, dispossessed, ignored by the powers that be etc etc.... when the truth is that many of the troublemakers are just mindless yobs who have been cossetted and indulged all their lives and who think that the world owes them a living !!! Time they were given a reality check !!!

From my experience of talking to politicians, you would be better off talking to your dog. In fact, your dog will probably , at least, listen to you !

Only the insane would vote for a politician to run the country.

RIP Broken Britain.. You went soft on discipline!.. You went soft on immigration! You went soft on crime.. Parents were told.. 'No you can't smack the kids'....Teachers were prevented from chastising kids in schools.. The police couldn't clip a troublemaker round the ear.. Kids had rights blah blah blah.. Well done Britain..You shall reap what you sow.. We have lost a whole generation!!

Msg 13,

Once again, I totally agree. The problem is not unique to Britain however, it is a symptom of Western society going soft and reaping the whirlwind !
