Plenty of "bars, shops and restaurants" in both, but if you want to socialise with Brits, then you'll prefer the area around Alsancak ... and its close to your workplace to boot.

Further to my msg 2 comment above - "Plenty of bars, shops and restaurants in both" - if you live around Alsancak, then you'll probably need a car to get to the restaurants and shops: If you live in Girne, you could commute on a pupils' service bus ... and therefore survive without a car.

"Would have a car anyway" - OK, so if you want to socialise at least occasionally with Brits, then Alsancak's probably best for you.
