the bags all packed weighed and repacked, passports at the ready,

the challenge on, to make the leap, holding the nerves steady,

arrive at night a mystery this step into the unknown,

day break comes, slowly to wake, the wonder we are shown,

those mountains rise to meet the sky, the fist raised in celebration,

our first day of our new life, we smile in jubilation,

who knows what the next month brings, so far what fun we've had,

taking it all in, the good to date, seems to outweigh the bad,

so as we raise our glasses at the end of day,

filled with sun and air,

we hope our luck has now improved,

to a life which is more fair.

Well the way most ex-pats pronounce it, it would be 'Girne'... which is often pronounced 'Gurney'

Why they can't pronounce it 'gear-nay' I don't know. It's not exactly a tough one.

Ask them to pronounce Kyrenia! And then try to find a rhyme ...

Child of the 60's, what have you done?

you took away morals and you called it fun

Sunday School was weekly and Marriage was blessed

You chose to reject them, now your children face the test.

Mods and rockers was your only thought

love was free, so long as you didn't get caught

Now where is the 'family' what does it mean?

Sitting around at Christmas, watching the Queen?

The Goat man comes most everyday

To feed his stock and lay down fresh hay

He beeps as he passes on his way

Up the mountain he goes to work and play.

The mountain rises out of the mist

The sun shines down upon Gods Land

The swallows fly dipping their wings

In crystal jewels, their chirping rings.

This place is heaven for all to see

It has a lot of naturality

I love North Cyprus it has to be said

There goes the goatman now back to his bed. x

Our Incesu home was a dream

Which has now turned into a nightmare

the Builders and Landowners just don't care

Now we have nothing along that mountain track

All we have left are the clothes on our back

There once was a lady from Madras,

Who had a magnificent ass,

Not pretty and pink,

as you would probably think,

it was grey, had long ears and ate grass.

Our father, who art in prison,

my mum knows not his name,

thy Riots come, read it in the sun,

in Birmingham , as it is in London,

give us this day our Welfare bread & forgive us our looting,

as we're happy to loot those who defend stuff against us,

lead us not into employment but deliver us free housing,

for thine is the teles, the Burberry & the Barcardi, forever and ever...Inn it !!!!

Who said, don't play with my hymenia

Until peanut butter

Made her murmur and mutter

Now she's screaming, there goes my sexennia

Where the hell has nn, amanda, and zero gone?

Gone to a land behind the mountain and sun!

To a land full of plenty of profanity, nubile women, and no chlorine?

I'll stick to normality, old men, and soreen! (with butter)

On Monday, Jimmy drove too fast and should have paid a fine.

On Tuesday, Jimmy parked upon a double yellow line.

On Wednesday, Jimmy drove through traffic lights while they were red,

On Thursday, Jimmy signalled left but then turned right instead.

On Friday, he drove up a street you only should drive down.

On Satuday, at 3 A.M., he blew his horn in town.

On Sunday, Jimmy washed his car and polished it with pride,

including the blue light on top and red stripes down each side.

BEING THANKFUL

I'm thankful to my parents, for giving me this life

I'm thankful that, compared to some, I've suffered little strife

I'm thankful that I have my health

I'm thankful to my friends

I'm thankful that I'm happy, and I hope it never ends

I'm thankful I have memories, that I treasure every day

I'm thankful that my winding path, has not led me astray

I'm thankful to those who love me, it fills my heart with glee

but most of all I'm thankful that I'm proud of just being me.

I STARTED THIS TRIP, WHEN I WAS 18

I'M 43 NOW, DO YOU GET WHAT I MEAN

THE TIME THAT I HAD, CANNOT BE BEAT

IT ALL BEGAN WITH BACARDI, NEAT

TWAS IN THE ARMY, AS A YOUNG BLOKE

WAS GIVEN THE BOTTLE, ALAS WITH NO COKE

A MILITARY WELCOME, CALLED INITIATON

SOON ENDED UP IN THE MEDICAL STATION

AS THE YEARS TRUNDLED ON

MANY DRINKS WERE SUBLIME

BUT NOT PERNOD, MARTINI OR BLUE NUN WINE

ONE OF THE WORST WAS TENANTS SUPER

MADE ME THROW UP ON A CANADIAN TROOPER

TRY AS I MITE I BECAME QUITE IMMUNE

SOMETHING QUITE MANLY BOUT BEING PISSED BY NOON

THOSE SERVICE DAYS GOT ME SET IN MY WAYS

I VE ALWAYS LIKED A TIPPLE

BUT NOTHING CAN TOP, THE DAY I LOST THE PLOT

AND GOT HAMMERED ON GIN RASBERRY RIPPLE

PORT AND SHERRY GOT ME MERRY, SO DID JOHN SMITHS SMOOTH

BUT THEN I LEARNED I SPENT WHAT I EARNED

ON A TRIP CALLED MY BOOZE CRUISE

THE DOLMUS

NOW HERE'S A MODE OF TRANSPORT

USED ONLY IN THESE PARTS

PERFUMED BY CIGARRETTE SMOKE

SWEATY CUSTOMERS AND FARTS

HUSSEIN, HIS COUSINS, MEHMET BEY

OBLIVIOUS TO THE SMELL

SIT IN TIRED AND BROKEN SEATS

THEIR BAGS IN THE FOOTWELL

ON INSPECTION THEY SEEM DECENT GUYS

BUT HYGEINE LACKS, ME THINKS

IT ONLY TAKES A MINUTE, BOYS

TO SPRAY ON SOME FAKE LYNX

THE SWEET ODOUR OF ARMPIT

BAD BREATH AND MINGING FEET

MAKE THEIR WAY TO MY NOSE

NOT THE PLACE TO MEET

NEVER THE LESS, I PAY MY FARE

AS THE JALOPY TRUNDLES SOUTH

ALL THE TIME, VERY AWARE, THAT

I'M BREATHING THROUGH MY MOUTH

ASIDE FROM BODILY NEGLIGENCE

THE SEATING MAKES ME ITCH

THEN I NOTICE ALI SCHUMAKKER

HEADING FOR A DITCH

HE SLAMS HIS FOOT ON THE MIDDLE PEDDLE

BUT SECRETLY KNOWS OUR FATE

HE HASN'T HAD BRAKES THAT WORK, SINCE 1988

THE BATTERED ENGINE BELLOWED SMOKE

FAILED M.O.T., I RECKONED

WE ROARED ALONG AT FORTY CLICKS

IN NOT THIRD GEAR, BUT SECOND

THE BUS IS FULL, RAM PACKED I

WHERE I LIVE

Water cooler leaking, fridge is on the blink

a hosepipe for a shower and cold water in the sink

air con gave up weeks ago, the roof is flooded too

gas bottle has just run out and the damp is coming through

few of us pay maintenance, so leaves adorn the pool

no lights in the stairwell, and the bins are pretty full

cant afford the V.A.T., approval is not final

guess my dream of owning here is flushed down the urinal

despite all this the country's great, if not a little retarded

North Cyprus is the place to be, if logic is disregarded

if it all goes pear-shaped, I'll sell and maybe rent

a little place in the Karpaz, or as a last resort, a tent

Wings

With one wing he

The evening gently with her.

She did not see, but I think felt

The warm air change;

Did not see, but knew

Her wing was healing.

Guessing his hands and heart moved

Weaving the scented air.

Flying in circles

Through owl starred night.

Cannot see but feels her

Smiling, moving warm air.

Gliding on the air of care

With love and goldenness.

She moved his heart

Embroidering his damaged wing.

Gossamer wing of angels pale

In the reflection, wings forged.

By loves stream of silver

Burning to Golden fire.

Meet in dream time

Ask the wise man.

Can this be

Is it I, will we be.

I thought it was you

Come to visit in the Sun.

But no it was not you

Whom I feel so close.

One of Natures’ gifts

A butterfly, kissed my cheek..

Thinking, dreaming could it be

Was it sent by her to kiss me.

Wings continued

Are we merely mortal

When we think such things.

Mind wide as Universe

A million stars.

Each star a universe, a thought.

A love, a kiss to give.

Waiting to discover

The sender of Butterflies.

One flew close today

Thinking instantly of you,

Living in beauty

Gives a heady rush.

Thinking of love again

Not so lonely now.

Something good is happening

Believe and it will come true.

Surrounded by Oleander

Mountain, rock and tree.

Allowing pure and sweet thought

The perfume of love.

Mountain tops dancing in the clouds

Heart pulsating.

New magic has arrived

From a far.

.

We glow as we age

Likened to a fine wine.

Fair face framed by flaxen hair

A lady for sure.

Svelte and sweet

Womanly smile with kind eye.

Gentle of nature

A rhapsody in skin.

Trapped on canvas

Framed with sadness.

Red the colour of the rose

Blanked out the other half.

Can emptiness be filled

As the ocean moves.

Deep my feeling

Make my woman whole.

Hers to be happiness

Golden her days.

Kibris love cascading

From beaten copper chalice.

Fire of passion reflecting

The food of love consuming.

Lips to be kissed

Passion to arouse.

Care absolute

Fragility to be protected.

Strength to be felt

Urgency of love.

Beauty and passion

Twins of love.

Giving all to each

Taking all from both.

Mobbed by butterflies

What say they.

No entwined limbs

Metamorphosis leathery.

From chrysalis woven silk

Wings of awe.

Spun beauty

Flight of delight.

Beating wing

Beating heart.

Beating drum

Sound birth of love.

Nurture this

Hold tight.

Breath a caress

On down of neck.

One man woman

One woman man.

When Eve span

Who then was the gentleman.

Brightest star

Cry of fox, hoot of owl.

Loves silent cry

Chastens the moon.

End of wings

A child in heart

Nor a prisoner.

A recluse no a gem

Bright and sparkling as a diadem.

Come out, come out, wherever you are

Show me your light.

Give me your love

Take my heart.

THE BUS IS FULL, RAM PACKED IN FACT

SPEEDING TOWARDS THE TOWN

DOLMUS WARS ARE RAGING

BUT OUR ALI WONT BACK DOWN

HE'S WORKED THIS ROUTE SINCE HIS DAD RETIRED

HE DOESN'T ASK FOR MUCH. JUST AN AIR FILTER, SOME PISTON RINGS, A SPARK PLUG AND A CLUTCH

I COULD GET OFF AT ANY STOP

BUT DON'T WANT TO BE SEEN

DEPARTING FROM THIS DEATH ON WHEELS

VIA A CRACKED WINDSCREEN

ON A LIGHTER NOTE I MIGHT SURVIVE

AND ONE DAY BE REBORN

RETURNING IN A LITTLE URN

OR AS A DOLMUS HORN

YOU CAN SPOT THEM FROM A MILE AWAY

CUZ THE HEADLIGHTS SHINE AND FLASH

I'M NOT ONE FOR STATISTICS

BUT THEY ARE LIKELY TO CRASH

THEY'RE CHEAPER THAN A TAXI

AND ALWAYS COME IN THREES

BUT AFTER TWENTY MINUTES

YOUL'LL BE PRAYING ON YOUR KNEES

WHEN YOU'RE NEXT DOWN BY THE ROAD

STOP ONE, IT'S A MUST

WORTH THE MEMORY, A DOLMUS RIDE

AND BETTER THAN WALKING. JUST

Sunrise 1

Kissing tree top

Awaking bird.

Glinting on dew

Adorned spider nest.

Dancing through canopy

Releasing dark to flee.

Back to hidden corners

Of primordial Earth.

Spinning Earth

Axis true.

Burning disc

Scribing daily.

Through clouds

Beams of light.

Life giving

Warmth again.

Beaten golden orb

Lamps dimmed.

Wicks trimmed

Warmth pervading.

Eyes shielded

Work begins.

Life renewed

By burning ball.

Lovers now see

Before just touching.

Darkness their friend

Hiding secrets.

Eyes beholding

Limbs unfolding.

Caressing nakedness

Modesty comes.

Child running

Sleepy eyed.

Urgently needing

Finding, hoping.

Is Grandma awake

Sun kissed child.

Carrying pure love

From her dreams.

Flowers opening

Vanishing dew.

Reflecting off water

Diamonds and you.

Bats and nocturnes retreat

Finding leaf, cave and hole.

Seeds germinating

Tendrils waving high.

Sunrise 2

Kiss of the Sun

No lips.

Feel its touch

Warming water.

Drying land

Life giver.

Life taker

Desert cruel.

Wolf bemused

Cowed, silent.

No moon to howl

Blinded eyes.

Seeking shadow

Night hunt over.

Protecting cubs

Hunters come.

Fiery planet.

Fission fierce.

Mysterious flare

Light of life.

Aztec, Inca

High priest, Druid.

Wielding knife, sacrificing

Alter of perpetual light.

Shining on me

Warming you.

I try to touch

Reaching up.

Reaching you

Connecting hope.

Too far, nearly can

I see you there.

You are my Sun

I need your heat.

Longing for your warmth

Smelling your hair.

Kissing your lips

You give me life.

Hope and care

Soon you will rise

The Pearl

Dark ocean deep

Oyster clamped fast.

Imprisoned pearl

My woman.

Holding breath swim

Upward, shell in hand.

Blade struck Sunshine

Polish with a kiss.

No gold rich enough

To fashion a mount.

For such shape divine

Lustre and Opaque.

Shining light

Shimmering wing.

Casketed

In my heart forever.

Thrown high in the night

The pearl.

The moon shining light

A Cyprus moon, Levantine.

Turkish Delight, coffee

Fez, rug and pipe.

Soon the Sun

My woman come.

Procession of butterflies

Greet the dawn

Nectar and petals

Carpet the ground

Arches of oleander

Perfume her way.

Rising over mountain

Chasing mist away.

We are all climbing different paths through the mountain of life

We may have experienced hardship and strife

There are very many points through the mountain of life

Some points can be found like the point of a knife. x

There was a wee man from Kibris

Who tried to get down on one knee

He fell on his ass

And landed on grass

And proposed to hubby not me!

fellow man

goodbye my fellow man

afraid you are not needed

women are independant

no longer need seeded

women are better painters ,

builders,plumbers and sparks

they look better,smell better

always up for a lark

they make more effort,

you have to admit

earn more money

and take no .......

food and booze

make us big and fat

look in the mirror

would you sleep with that!

slowly but surely

we are being edged out

if it came to fight

we would lose the bout

sooner or later

man will be gone

life as we know

would just carry on

there is but one chance

a little hope

a chink in the armour

a straw or rope

every woman

no matter how coy

dreams of giving birth

to beautiful little boy

CLEAR VISION

As I gaze out my window a vision fills my eyes

Of lush green mountains... and clear blue skies

The crystal sea sweeps calmly into rocky bays

The heat waves from the sun produce a misty haze

The sheep climb down the mountain, bleating as they go

The flowers seem to bloom all year,a glorious fragrant show

A pleasure boat bobs smoothly far into the distance

A tree sways gently in the breeze, giving no resistance

I hear the sound of barking dogs somewhere far away

Drifting softly on the wind, the sound of kids at play

A small cloud clings on tightly to the mountain peak

A sunshade flapping now and then, shielding from the heat

I'll lay outside and read my book protected from the sun

Absorbing all these visions, enjoying every one

I'll share my words and visions and pass them onto you

Just close your eyes a moment and you will see it too

Thanks keldanreb, here's a little light hearted one to make you smile, I hope!

LITTLE WILLY

The name's Little Willy, I'm smaller than most

I certainly have nothing about which to boast

If I get excited I sometimes grow bigger

Like if I see a lady with a lovely figure

But mostly I'm just Little Willy, you won't see me around

Unless I tie on weights and hang them down to the ground

Watching you this morning

In my mind’s eye.

Rising gently

I turn my back.

While you bathe and dress

I smell your womanly warmth.

Involuntary shudder

You sense that I am there.

A smile rewards my voyeurism

I smile back.

Watching is rewarding

Puzzling too.

Much more self contained

Than men.

Of good habit, graceful

Lips capturing crumbs sensitively.

Not fair to watch

Return to Cyprus Isle.

Kiss my love before I go

She knows I have been.

Raises her hand

To touch hair.

Softly my kiss brushed

Locks so fair.

Float to earth

Not alone.

She reaches my mind

Like none before.

Sends butterflies

Through my door.

I gently let them out

Fear they damage wing.

I talk to butterflies now

Asking, is it you.

Did she send you

What do you know.

Land on my hand, please do

Then I will know it is you.

Talking to butterflies conjures

Up visions of men in white coats.

Thanks Carole, glad you enjoy. You might enjoy this as well:-

Some people like to moan a lot

Others just relax

Some people don't get any pleasure

Unless they're on attack

It takes all sorts t make a world

Enjoy a sweet refrain

Others don't enjoy their life

Unless they can complain

So here i am on Cyprus 44

theres loads of info, thats for sure

entertainment,restaurants,swimming pools,

cats &dogs, the belediye & government rules,

some history from a guy called Dutch

although i'll say,he dont like jokes much.

also a nurse with a heart of gold,

shes willing to help, weather your're young or old.

theres moaners & groaners, you're best to ignore.

double id's & abuse rate ahigh score.

but most are friendly on cyprus 44,

obviously im no poet,so i'll say no more.

Thanks keldanreb.

Great one vonny

Here's a little limerick that could relate to quite a few people

There was a young man on the forum

Who'd argue each post not ignore 'em

He was banned from the site

'Cos he'd only post spite

Until he promised to have some decorum

ROBINS NEST 1

Woman drinking

Functional alcoholic.

Dress fashion gothic black

Hair of silver ringlets.

Living a deceitful life

Lies tongue tripping lies.

Bottle to bottle

Abuse to man.

Building a rockery

Stopping, watching.

Robins’ nesting close

Stop work do not startle.

Stop for incoming worms

Love these birds.

Mouths to feed

Stopping with care and wonder.

Hen and Cock, working to ends

Chick gaped ochre mouths

Cheeping, stop work, move away.

They cry.

Worm after worm

Rock after rock.

Both building

Only rock is dead.

Lovers tiff, leaving permanently.

Returning to collect stuff.

Nest trashed, chicks are gone

Temper, revenge petulant act.

Harmony to blackness

I do not believe.

Cock and Hen are none

For humanity despair.

continued....

Magpie, I was told

Silver ringlets, Gothic black.

The plumage of hate

Callous, cruel revenge.

Magpie I was told

Swooping from the sky.

I cry for our chicks, Cock and Hen

Despising humanity.

I cannot hate

I cannot forget.

Silver ringlets Gothic black

Unnamed baby.

Un fledged birds

Speechless, no words.

Cruel act, precise

Where was mother.

Do I imagine cruelty

Swooping black and white killer.

Natural is predator bird

Natural is jealousy, hate and revenge.

Conjecture unsound

Sub text rebounds

I lied, It is natural

I hate Silver ringlets and Gothic black.

There was an old man from Kibris

Who got himself in a tiz

He swapped his Lira for pounds

Found his wealth out of bounds

And ended up in the shit.....

It's a modern take on a limerick

Old eyes look down on loves long gone hair

Surrendered when love n lust full blown

Presious time care take n not long to stare

at glories see glistening on crinkled fingers shown

Put away moist thought and hide that tear

Turn look away with half closed eye

another day to indure without my dear

so much we thoughts when i will die

FALLING

How I tumbled into it

I do not know.

A strange, soft place

Sweet and warm.

Alone, spinning

Tumbling neither up nor down.

I see a sign, Friday it says

Catch the hand, be quick.

No bat nor newt or frog

Inhabit this place.

Just me, I see a light

A very small light.

I hear a small cry

Is that the echo of me.

Listening hearing, 'It's me'

Who are you?

The light, the love

Tumbling closer, together.

I may faint with the ecstasy

What if I miss her hand?

My palms are moist

What if I slip or miss?

Tumbling forever

In the void of love.

No missing or slip

Fated together as one.

Smiling, loving together

I hear her cry, Yes.

Nothing can stop this

Wet palms or gravity.

I shout, 'It is me'

I am yours forever.

Broken down cart

Ornamental on my patio.

Past cargo

Hay, grain, carob and olives.

Cypriot waggoner

Long gone.

Donkey or horse

Living engine, now dead.

Journeying here

Pulling there.

Carter whistling

Sometime singing.

Folk songs of old

Clip, clop beat the hooves.

Rattling chains

Rubbing hames.

Iron clad wheels

Sparking at night.

Harvest of grape

Olives to press.

Merely ornamental now

Long gone times.

Shed a tear

For the waggoneer.

His grandson now drives

A bus, a taxi or a car.

No loads for Dobbin

No fetlock scar.

Rotted whip

Supermarket trip.

Grapes in bag

Olives in pack.

Ruts in track

Filled with tarmac.

Grooming stopped

Painted tin.

Stable down

Diesel, petrol pump.

Feedbag discarded

Empty of hay and oats.

Land no longer sweet

Not fertilised where roads meet.

Crops neglected

Tree unpruned.

Cart drying, rotting

Chains rusting.

Talk to the car

It cannot neigh or bray.

Horses’ Winter breath

Steaming in the dawn.

Lets go, lets go

So that I get warm.

Start the car

Oh, Oh, battery flat.

Pat the rear to no avail

Everything dies with time.

Pluck some hair from tail or mane

Bow to violin.

Sad refrain

Come back again.

Ghost walking, clip, clop

Through the night.

Bearing loads

Of memories bright.
