Lilaclady I suggest you you look at the many social events that are posted on this forum and others and use those as a means to meet people and make friends whilst here. The range of such events , geographicaly and 'type' wise is large. Asking directly for invitations to 'meet' people may well also be a valid way to achieve the goal of meeting new people and making friends but it does also have some 'risks' as well I would suggest.



Anyway I hope you have a great time when you visit and do indeed meet new people and make new friends whilst you are here.
