Ronaldo.

We should definitely ban happy hours and anything other promotion that encourages irresponsible drinking particularly amongst the young sadly for many irresponsible happy hours will mean miserable lives for them and their families.

Take a look at the statistics that show the increase in young people with liver disease and the tangible cost to our health service and the intangible cost to our society.

Next time you have an hour to spare on a Friday/Saturday evening take a walk round your local town centre or better still spend a couple of hours in accident and emergency with hard working nursing staff that suffer both physical and verbal abuse from the PINT OF VODKA AND RED BULL BRIGADE that frequent our town centres at weekend.

So to answer your question all promotions that promote irresponsible drinking should be banned.

lets be done with it and ban living and breathing!

Young people need to be educated about drinking, if it was acceptable to have a glass of wine or another drink with a meal and in family situations when they were younger ie as they do in france( but not too young) then they would be less inclined to go out on a weekend and get wasted. Lets face it most kids go out from about the age of 15 if not a little younger because its seen as the cool rebellious thing to do.

I personally see nothing wrong with letting 14/15 year olds have a drink providing its in moderation and it can be regulated at home otherwise it becomes forbidden fruit and thats when problems occurr.

Totally agree... we have started de-mystifying alcohol with our kids so that when the time comes they are hopefully not too subject to either temptation or peer pressure...

Our daughter 15 absolutely hates the taste of it... Son gets a strange glow in his eyes.... and smiles

We were brought up with the odd glass of wine or cider with meals and in family situations and all my family enjoy a drink but have a healthy respect for it..

Exactly right Groucho, my sister who is 19 hardly ever drinks and if she does go to a pub it tends to be a soft drink and i reckon thats because she was always allowed a drink at home if the occassion arose.

We need more education about stuff like this and not just the goverment hiking up prices, if you really want a drink you will buy it regardless of the price, just like cigarettes and why spoil it for the rest of us who enjoy a drink every now and then
