There is a lovely black dog (female) with her puppies living under a car in the car park. Please feed and give some water if you are an animal lover. I am at work 3 days a week and cannot feed everyday.

Thank you sooooo much.

I am an animal lover but surely it would be kinder if the powers that be humanely put these dogs to sleep, what life do they have now and will it get any better.

Now I'll put my tin hat on.

Msg. 1. Thanks for drawing attention to her but PLEASE give KAR office a ring and she and her pups will probably be taken care off. And before anyone gives me a load of grief, yes as a female she will be treated as N & R (spayed) but at least she won't go through all this again and for one year will be wormed, and injected r against all and sundry. That's where shed loads of the money goes.

I believe KAR wll take puppies Dawn. I had one left at my house and when I rang them, they said they would either come and pick it up or I could take it to the office in Girne. They did say that they do take puppies still. This was only about 3 or 4 months ago. I took it to the office, as I couldn't look after it.

Metin ...KAR , are very busy looking after far too many dogs, and have ceased to be an Animal Rescue centre, more of a dogs Home.. Their contribution to stray dog welfare is to Neuter/ Release....Their Fund raisers ,Donation Boxes, Supermarket Begs, are only there to feed the Hoards of captive dogs in Arapkoy..Hardly any of witch are Re-homed...

Msg10 and msg11 and msg3

Are you all saying you think it would be kinder for that specific animal for it to be killed than to live on the street ? If so do you also believe that is the case for street children around the world and if not why not ?

Just to be clear (once more) my own view is that a properly managed and thought out programme of humane killing of feral animals is necessary in the TRNC but I would never claim that such was for the benefit of the indivdual animals killed or 'kinder' for them. I am honest enough to say that such a programme was for the benefit of me and or society and or the environment and or indigenous wild animals.

erolz - for what it's worth, yes, I too agree with message 3.

Please do not confuse street children with street animals - there is a vast difference.

PS Yes, I am an animal lover but to me, quality of life is far more important than quantity.

Jeannie I do not confuse animals with humans. However if the argument is that it is better to not live at all than live a life with a high probability of suffering, then why is that true for animals and not humans. What difference between humans and animals makes it true for one and not for the other ?

Pugwash clearly I am not getting my point accross very well. I am not vegan. I do not think animals have the same rights as humans. I do not think humans should not use or kill animals.

I do however believe in logic. If it is REALLY better for an animal to kill it than for it to have a life with a high chance of suffering, then I have to ask why is that not true for humans as well. If there is something in the difference between humans and animals that says why then ok but I do not know what that difference is that says that. The fact that animals do not talk as humans do does not mean its true that killing them is better for them and not for humans. That they have less reasoning capcity does not mean it either. So what is it that means its true for animals and not humans.

Personaly I do not think any of the many differences between humans and animals explains why killing one is better for one but not the other, but I am willing to listen to such suggestions.

To compare human beings to stray dogs is ridiculous, of course no one would condone killing street children or the starving in Africa, it is surely their Governments responsibility to care for these people, as to if they do or not is another thing.

But we are talking about a stray dog that is living under a car with her puppies, they are most likely starving, flea and tick infested with very little prospect of ever having a decent life, the bitch will probably be pregnant again before too long, and so on and so on.

Stray dogs are a huge problem here and it's a problem that needs dealing with, in my own opinion if dogs are roaming the streets they should be collected by the belediye and if not collected by the owners within two weeks then they should be humanely put to sleep, harsh maybe but necessary.

I do hope these doggies are cared for, i have more respect for dogs than i will ever have for human beings, i'm afraid my dealings in life have left me feeling this way, i know what hattikins is saying though, on my many trips to north cyprus i have seen deplorable conditions that dogs are kept in and traeted, i have thought these dogs would be a lot happier off dead than kept tethered 24/7 365 days of the year some without shelter, food and water no doubt will suffer excruciating deaths.

unfotunately the government has been trying to care for these unfortunate people for years how many billions have been spent in Africa? and still the problem goes on..EDUCATION is the way forward for humans and animals in distress, im not sure how that will transpire , do we have the right to forcefully inject contraceptives into African women?, as do we have the right to kill dogs? but i agree with mssge 16,18,&19, so im a lillte torn here:( in the meanwhile i hope someone feeds her and she gets help.

Have contacted KAR, as have others because she was known to them and on their list to be picked up whenever they can.

They are not starving, and some people are feeding and someone even left a blanket. Thank God for people like that.

She is very nervous, so everyone just continue to look after an d maybe she will be easier to catch when the time comes.

Thanks to all the animal lovers out there. I will not get involved in the arguments above.........but I hope that some of the humans above come back as street dogs !!!!

Hattikins, once more. To say we need to kill stray animals in order to benefit society at large I have no issue with. I accept that such killing of an animal for a wider benefit to society is acceptable with an animal life but not a human one. However to say we need to kill an animal because it is better for that specific animal to be dead than face a life with a high chance of suffering is just something I can not accept. If I did accept that it was better for the animal to die because there is a high CHANCE that it will lead a life a suffering, then I would have to accept that was also true for humans who have a high chance of living a life of suffering.

I think people who tell others and themselves that we must kill these aniamls for the animlas sake, are simply not being honest. We should I think do it for our sake and be honest that it is for our sake and not pretend it is for the benefit of the animal we will kill.

So where does it end, this bitch has probably given birth to female pups who in turn will get pregnant, and so on and so on, then what, something has to be done eventually.

Erolz Maybe your logic is good. Is it possible that humans are the real vermin? I suspect we have killed off more species in our short time on earth than nature has done with her long sojourn on this little planet. The Chinese tried to reduce families to one child but there are still more of them.

If it is for practical reasons or to salve our individual or gestalt conscience we will persist in putting down any excess animals that do not provide us meat or milk. Maybe the film Soylent Green will strike a chord in the near overpopulated future!

In the mean tie let look after these poor mites and hope they have a good life.

Hattikins if message 24 is aimed at me I will try once more to explain the point I am making.

If you say to me we need to put down down feral animnals for OUR (societies) benefit, then you will get no argument from me.

If you say to me we need to put down feral animals for the benefit of the animals that are being killed, I say that is a false argument, designed to make the person saying it feel better but that does not stand the test of reason, for if it really were true that killing such animals was BETTER for THEM, then it would also be true for humans in similar circumstance and clearly that is not the case.

I would just like a bit of honesty, thats all.

Hattikins you are indeed entitled to both believe what ever you want and express such beliefs here publicaly. Just as I am entitled to explain why I do not share such beliefs and why I think they are based on false logic, if you do choose to express them here.
