WORRIED Protaras residents reported last night that youths in the main tourist areas are risking their lives almost every night playing dangerous drinking games.

According to one resident, Pampina Themistokleous, one of the games takes place around a pool.

“There’s a ritual which started two-three years ago where the one who’s most drunk from the group is thrown in the pool as the rest go round and round shouting war cries,” Themistokleous told the Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation (CyBC) last night.

She described a recent incident when two boys were “literally dragging a third boy” who was apparently unconscious and threw him in the pool.

“A certain gentleman who was here and didn’t find the incident at all amusing pulled him out and saved his life,” Themistokleous said.

“Should we explain (to these kids) about manslaughter by negligence?” an angry Themistokleous asked.

Paralimni Mayor, Andreas Evangelous, said that these incidents do take place but although there is a strong police presence “neither the municipality nor the police can be in an area of 50 square kilometres at every moment” when an incident of this sort takes place.

CyBC reported that residents say that dangerous drinking games at the mentioned pool take place almost every night and are asking for the police to make their presence felt.

what happened to responsibility for one's own actions. If these boys are stupid enough to get drunk, .... well, what canone say. Why not close the pool! and who are these kids, and where are their parents. And why should the police have to spend public money chasing some irresponsibile youngsters. What is the world coming to?
