What a brilliant performance by UB40 at the Amphitheatre! Great atmosphere and energy on and off the stage, everybody up dancing and singing along, I don't think I've ever seen the amphitheatre so lively! Hope we get lots more nights like tonight

marion it was the fullest i've ever seen - over three quarters full - great concert - I saw them (god knows how many years ago) at crystal palace supporting Santana and they were as good today as they were then - well worth the 70 tl

Ditto on all the above, plus it was my friends first night out after a hospital visit, added bonus just seeing her face.

Hey message 3 - Crystal Palace. You are talking of my home town (almost). But i am a square and used to go to concerts with the LSO,. LPO etc. But did you live there? Or travelled there? Oh, you hav e got me going all nostalgic now!

But I did not realise it was 70tl to go in tonight. But then of course, what on earth would that cost in U.K? And message 5 - I know who you mean - hope it didn't do her any harm!

What is really great about this is that after allthe negatives last year of stars letting North Cyprus down, here we have a great act that have actually come and brought pleasure with them. So even though I am not a pop fan, I am now a fan of UB40 for what they did for us.

Marion tonight they made history, fantastic show, everyone had a great time would not have missed it for the world, good job i never bumped into my doctor or i would have been in trouble!!!

In the words of their own song "we fight for the right to be free, we fight for our own socierty."

They had the balls to not only come here and perform but to come in via Ercan which means so much.

Great stuff! glad you survived, annd hope you don't 'pay' for it tomorrow (oops, later today). Actually the words that you quote could be a good motto for this country, couldn't they? Iam looking forward to \Brian Hardie's write up in next week;s Star, as he knew the group 20 years ago and had great fun catching up with them - so it will be interesting tosee what he has to say as he saw them outside of the Press Conference.

Just hope that it has put you on the road to recovery! c.U. soon.

I think some one said on another thread that Ali campbell was UB40, and that the rest were just a band. How wrong were they!!! The whole band is UB40, and Ali's brother was fantastic! I saw them in concert 25 years ago and they are still AMAZING!!!

One of the best nights out in Cyprus I have ever had. Well done.

It was so nice to see everyone up and dancing.

Thanks Marion for your post . I got back from drinks with the Band at 2 am they decided to stay up as they were off to the airport at 4am to Holland to play 4 festival gigs starting tomorrow night . You can't keep old rockers down ! Did a great 40 min interview with Robin after the press conference . We go back from 1988 when they sponsored our rally programme in Holland and Belgium . Sadly my driver who was great chums with the band passed away 5 years ago with Leukaemia and it was the first time we had all met up since . The Tour Manager was amazed to see me yesterday he used to spanner for us on the rallies . It really is a big family entourage lot that criss cross the globe . The interview is a biggie and there are all sorts of great anecdotes of a working band . I have been to dozens of concerts over the years and I would put this one in the top 10 . Fantastic atmosphere and setting and just great to see a band still on it after 30 yrs together . Hope you enjoy the interview pc .

Thanks, Sour Brandy, and to everyone else who reads this thread and wonder why SB got all the insight he did, why not buy The Star newspaper next Friday for a full spread on the exclusive interview with old friends by SB himself! and pictures! Will give you a better insight as to where the band have been for the past 20 years.

So, even if you don't normally buy The Star , if you are a UB40 fan, take a look on next Friday!

and I sometimes wished I liked pop music. Did see the Beatles though at the albert Hall, but that was in the days when I got freebies everywhere. But they were great musicians!

What a fantastic band. Their connection with the people is amazing and they got as "up close and personal " as possible. Had such a good time and would go to see them again. Made us feel so good and "proud" of them. The sound system was amazing. To think, I nearly didn't go because of this August heat. Best money we've spent since coming to this island. Well done UB40 and reggae on. Congratulations to the Mayor of Girne for his concept, Brilliant achievment!!!!

As far as I'm aware, The Beatles last live performance was in 1969, on the roof of the Apple Building.

Marion - you would have been two years old - or are you exercising that well known lady's privilege of telling stories about your age

Ah, messages 21 and 22, you have found me out!!!!! Unfortunately on this board you have to put your age. Normally i just give my birthday of 25th July in the hope that someone sends cards, but you have to put SOMETHING on this, . Do forgive me, for as rightly assumed, I am exercising the ladies privilege (as so nicely put!). I am not saying how old I was when I saw the Beatles, but I did, I did, I did! And it was from a box right at the side of the stage. I REALLY enjoyed that.

As to my actual age, I am the same as Zsa Zsa Gabor 'somewhere between 21 and death!. ' Tamam?

Hey Marion just off to bed after transcribing my interview all 1600 words of it now I just need to top and tail it . Anyway not the point as I was finishing off the sounds of the ghastly Escape club place just started to drift up the mountain .... Bloody rubbish repetitive boom boom . Put last night's gig by a proper band into perspective !! Can you put a call out for any good photos of the night which we can use my box brownie is useless in the dark and anyway I do words not pics . So much good feedback on the gig I will copy out this thread and post to Robin with the article . He told me last night to expect a private visit with family later in the year .Wants to see the island in daylight . Some hapless TC hack asked in the press conference Do you like our lovely island .. pause while band look at each other . Difficult to say mate arrived in the dark went to bed and got up 30 mins ago . Probably same tomorrow when we leave at 4am . Next QS ..... It really was like that ....

Please accept my apologies for blowing your cover

Saw a photograph of poor old Zsa Zsa recently; she looks dreadful. I'm not, of course, saying that you look like her; I'm sure you're a mere slip of a thing.

Regards.

Jean

No prob Jeannie. Age is just a number! (As well as a well kept secret!). And i am NOT as old as Zsa Zsa by a long chalk. And i am blessed that at the moment I have no health problems .

when we meet, if we have not already, you can decide. Pick a number!

Incidentally i sent in a photo AGES ago but the Mods have not put it on. If you want to see a pic of me, take a lookl at http://www.starint.net on line - click on the Last Week;s edition, and you might find a pic of me in there somewhere .

meanwhile, as I say, no prob. It proves that you are pretty good at maths.
