Or maybe it was their history exams they failed.

In the "good old days" people came here because they had a previous connection (attached to British Forces , diplomatic mission, United Nations etc)and may even have experienced some of the "troubles". So they had an understanding of the country and a commitment to it., and could make allowances for some of the problems.

Too many people now are looking for Liittle Britain in the sun" and dont understand (in some cases dont even want to) the people and the culture, and dont realise the unreasonable demands they make on the infrastructure, ecology and culture are damaging. And sadly , as everywhere, there are always those who will take advantage of their naivity

Oh Spider, that touched a nerve. When I first came here it was so wonderful I could drive at night (and with the doos unlocked and windows open at that!) on my own, and wander round the village streets again on my own if I wished.

Now I am back to being stuck at home, not because of crime, but because of the traffic. And driving a small economical saloon I am also constantly being blinded by undipped headlight, not only oncoming but people driving far too close behind and shining their headlights in the mirror.

And one cant walk the streets because of the large vehicles driving round and round roads built for donkey carts looking for a parking place for the night out at a - sadly no longer local - restaurant or bar.

Yorg,

I always thought the saying was "When building a house, first choose your neighbors" or has that old Cypriot saying fallen by the wayside now?

Still, like the saying you have posted.

An aweful lot of irrellevant nonsense, as usual. " Approx will do within 5,000 will do, but no more bs answers and comments.

Fosterscan the results of the last census were published, but those who want to will not believe them even when they are published. However they do not show as far as I recall how many TRNC citizens resident in Cyprus also hold UK citizenship which was what the original poster was asking.

SPIDER AND BIZZIELIZZIE;

RE the driving at night.

Things were much worse in the 'old days' when most of the cars were old LHD rattle traps with unadjusted headlights.

As to the behaviour of the drivers, hasn't it always been so?

andre514 msg23, what do you mean by Turkish born Cypriot ? Any child of a Cypriot parent, where ever born, is considered a Cypriot citizen and always has been, nothing new there at all. I was born in the UK, my mother was English, my father TC. I was always a cypriot citizen by birth right, both under TRNC law and under RoC law and that is still the case.

If you mean Turkish born and not of Cypriot parent or parents, who have moved to Cyprus then just look at the new legislation being argued about right now. It's very purpose is to give such people rights in Cyprus, without giving them full citizenship, so called 'white card'.

Anyway its not clear what it is you do mean, at least to me.

Today my van was robbed.......I thought i would buy my little dog (Gaydog) some chicken livers as she was badly attacked over the weekend by a big nasty dog, she only just survived the attack and was operated on by her vet today and is poorly at home. I parked the van outside my mates restaurant and it was robbed by a cat, who has nicked all of Gaydogs grub...there is no end to the crime here......

erolz message 26,

I see what you mean! the gist of my posting was twofold:

firstly there is a certain number of folk born in turkey who are now settled in cyprus

they attract a lot of "flak" from those with a variety of agendas, who pop up on "44"

but I am sceptical, that things are clear-cut as portrayed and they'll never integrate

secondly, I see what you mean about "white cards" rather than citizenship,

but what about kids born in cyprus of people of whatever parentage are these auto

-matically citizens of trnc/roc?

and why is any of this a "big deal" anyway?

well, one of the keynotes of all recent reunification discussions, from greek cypriot

perspectives and supposedly a burning issue for many ex-pat contributors on here

who say they fear the end of "britishness", is how many are finally allowed to stay

within the context of an overall cyprus settlement?

should there ever be an overall cyprus settlement, rather than an accommodation

andre514 being born in Cyprus, North or South does not automaticaly grant a right to citizenship. Being born anywhere of a Cypriot (citizen) parent does. That is my understanding.

erolz ,that is also what i have been led to believe ,the criteria is cypriot parents born in cyprus and your father must be alive or even then you will have problems,my youngest brother who was born in london could not get his kimlik ,because our father has passed away ,yet i have obtained a kimlik for my youngest son who was born in enfield because i was born in cyprus.

Apologies to the OP for diverting from the original question. I really have useful to contribute, except that I wonder if publishing such statics as far as non Cypriot or Turkik might make things easier for certain, let us say, ill intentioned people!

But as for as Newscoop is concerned - it rather depends where you are sitting or standing. If you had (a) been swiped by a passing four wheel drive two large for the road, when walking through your village as close to the wall as you could get (b) been forced into a ditch by dittowhen driving a small, but well maintained suitable rhd saloon and (c) had a pleasant village street turned into a racetrack, your house damaged and use of your front door made dangerous , you might see things a bit differently and be as bitter as I am.

Agreed driving standards havent improve much but the "rattletraps" (often well cared for vehicles which were all that could be obtained) couldnt do so much damage and did not encourage......

contd......................

the macho bullying tactics which are employed nowadays and even unadjusted their headlights did not damage other drivers night vision.

For the record the drivers in (a) and (b) were middle aged British men. In (c) they are all ages, genders, races shapes and sizes.

And no fortunately I wasnt seriously hurt. In the first instance, sheer good luck. In the second because I knew the road well - better than the idiot who apparently didnt care that it is regularly used by pedestrians - particularly children - who have no option but to walk by the side of the road as there are no pavements.

Musim M msg 35

Maybe it is something new because when I came here to live about 8 years ago, my father had passed by that time and I had no issue with getting a kimlick card. In fact I got no choice at all in the matter.

I do not know if the below link of the TRNC consitution is current and accurate but here it is anyway.

Oh dear,, what a pity that so many on this forum seem to think it clever to make snide comments to people they dont know rather than state their case coherently.

I am on nothing, tonyf. Just very distressed that the retirement I worked and saved for and the country I love are being ruined by oversized children who want to turn North Cyprus into a playground when they can play with their dangerous toys without concern for others.

What is your objection to my post tonyf, or are you one of those who thinks because they bought an oversized vehicle they own the road, and anyone else who happens to be there should lie down and be run over rather than risk impeding your too fast and careless short cut through a quiet village.

BizziLizzi, My comments were neither snide or from the owner of an oversized vehicle. Like you I love TRNC and yes there are certain things that spoil and indeed have spoiled it, but if you read my original post you will see that I was asking a straight forward very sensible knowledge seeking question, and to now have not had the answer I seek. |This will however bring it back gto the top so I thank you for that.

For the record the question was

"Does anybody know approximately how many UK citizens, including turkish cypriots with dual nationaility reside or own property/interests in TRNC? "

Seemed like a fairly simple question and I only want an estimation to help in another very relevant area.
