yevray.... I said, looks can be deceiving, whether or not you find it gorgeous is based entirely on where you have been.. eg If you have been to Bournemouth or South End, it is fabulous. If you have been here it's not..

d41,

why slag the place off ? if you dont like it here, why dont you sod off back to england or wherever you came from, instead of sitting in on sunny days with your head in your laptop like some saddo!

or maybe you are like many on this forum who do not live here but moan and whinge with an outlook of the north that has been distorted due to a bad experience with builders,or came to live the dream on 40% interest apr from the banks and are now struggling on 7%,and cannot afford to live here, forced to return to the miserable uk?

how can you you say this island is not gorgeous? its a beautiful place,st hilarion at sunset, bellapais abbey, the karpaz, the harbour, famagusta ,salamis,nicosia......the list is endless, all great landmarks and beautiful sights to be seen.

the people are friendly, its dirt cheap to live and have a good time.

you;ll find loads to do,if you stop being negative, moaning and whining, switch off your computer and get out in the sun and live!

Dirt cheap to live? Where the hell are you shopping?

Many people have come to live here and can't 'sod off' as you so put it. They are trapped here without title deeds and nothing to go back to! They have spent or been robbed of their life savings and don't have a pot to pee in.

I am lucky not to be one of those people but have some compassion for those who are not so lucky. Don't balme them for moaning cos if i were one of them i would be moaning to!

msg 9 How quickly you jump to conclusions, I was merely pointing out that compared to Bournemouth this place is fabulous, but there are more comparisons that make the TRNC anything but fabulous...........I have never said I hate the TRNC.....but many have good reason to do so..Judging by the length of your post I guess you are also indoors..

bigjuss... well done..

The problem that most brits are making is that they are being caught up in the dream and not doing their homwork properly.

I've heard many a story about trusting the estate agent with legalities. Would you not through a solicitor back in the UK when buying or selling??? I certainly wouldn't. So why do it in any other part of the world?

We live in lovely countryside in Devon but the rain!! and the damp!!! and the moss!!! we can't wait to be back soon in North Cyprus and we might even make it permanent. The only foods that are cheap here now are bananas and carrots. It already seems autumnal and we have the long winter ahead of us. Difficult decision though to leave your own country.

COCOBUTIK,

The vast majority of people bought via an advocate. Indeed most of the complaints and problems stem from the advocates not having a duty of care and having performed their role inadequately or even fraudulently. Most chose an advocate through other British clients recommendations.

If you truly think that many have simply not done their homework why not go to the meeting at the Pia Bella and rather than guessing why things went wrong, do some proper investigations into whats really happening.

If you're having a property built, use a chartered surveyor to keep an eye and monitor the building.

Don't leave your brains on the plane.

Justin, I agree, it is reasonable to live here, but I can understand the plight of some who were receiving high interest rates on their savings, and now it has lowered.

If you are drawing sterling, the high exchange rate is beneficial. If your money is in TL, the exchange rate makes no differnece.

By the way, again, I have had another ''best day of my life'', the only reason I'm on here is hubby is at waterfront watching football. I've got skype on to talk to my Mum... OK?

hahahaha

Msg 19, what are you waiting for!

TRNC is fab, take it as it comes, beauty with some extra things we dont have to do in uk.

No bother though take all things in your stride.

Everyone has an opinion but you have to judge things yourself. We did, dont know if in the long term it will of been the right one but up to now absolutely yes.

Miss my family but they are all visiting us and we will return in the winter, just to remind us of cold bleak winters.

Also miss TK Maxx but we are saving a fortune

message 21 -Bradus-being a nice person doesn't mean you don't make mistakes.

Just look at the mess Paul McCartney got himself into.

Phil,

Are you referring to my comment about having a duty of care? If so, this is much more than advocates being nice people. Its more about acting and safeguarding the clients interests. It's about being accountable for your actions and maintaining a professional stance.

I don't necessarily want "nice people" to care for my legal matters but I do want honest, trustworthy and more importantly competent people.

Not sure what the connection is with Paul McCartney! Did this nice person buy in the TRNC and get scammed?

Bradus - Msg 21 - I am not guessing as to what has gone wrong. If you read the post I actually said "I have heard many a story...", Which means I have actually heard it from people that have done it...

My view is simply why do something in another country that you would not do at home?

As far as 'Investigating' goes..I did enough for myself thanks, I don't need to do it for others.

Tenakoutou - My family originate from Cyprus. I was born in London and after living there for 34 years I am VERY HAPPY living in TRNC.

Well Justin can see why you are single, people do NOT get ripped off by their own incompetence, most decent people expect that they are also dealing with respectable reputable developers, estate agents etc, only to find out too late that there are a lot of sharks out there, is your company a legitimate registered TRNC company????

I'm sure a lot of member "appreciate" your compassion for their situation, don't think too many will be rushing to buy you a pint of beer.

Stonehousepub said it best in messgae 23

"If your over 60, financially secure, in good health and kids have flown the nest the TRNC is fine... "

After 12months of living in TRNC and having integrated in the north Cyprus way of life, i must be truthful....we moved back to the UK 3months ago and even with the riots and the rain.....it has so much more to offer us as a family.....education, salaries(100% more!) to name just a few...i even have a doctor that sees me at 24hour notice at no charge, my food shop is 50% less at sainsburys than Lemar! Electric bill 3times cheaper.....The best thing the UK offers is options.....and as a family this is very important!

TRNC is a beautful place and i would always say, people have to make up their own mind but i would have to agree with Stonehousepub.....after doing it, I now feel it is only a small bracket of people that are really better off living the TRNC way of life.

Much respect and best wishes

So if your retired and financial secure then just don't get sick!

Bigjuss, clearly your life style differs from mine but most people i know don't eat out every night, we are not tourists. The standards of your living and where you consider a good cheap place to eat is also very differnt from mine.

We don't do the pub but take for instance a pint of beer.In the south you can buy a can from the supermarket for 50cents. German beer. So why would you pay such high prices for an effes?

The meat prices in the south are also considerably lower than the north.

A packet of cigs the last time in the south cost me around 2.20 but thats euros, not pounds!

i could go on but the only things which i find cheaper here are toilet rolls and washing powder.

As for eating special priced meals, i'm not that sort of girl, i don't do cheap.
