The best steak I had in the TRNC was a fillet at a restaurant called Amaretto. It was in the lane by the side of the round tower in the high street. It wasn't there this year. Anybody know if it has moved somewhere else.? The Butlers wife

Unfortunately Ameretto, which was in the refurbished market by the round tower in Girne has closed. Simple lack of customers I believe. Shame, great food and always cooked to order. Another victim of the recession.

Tinker. When I asked him why the name he just laughed and shrugged his shoulders' I presumed he was T/C as the little waiter is turkish and also the kitchen staff, also at Bayram he closed.

Lilli How much do you charge for Steak with green pepper sauce and veg? Also what's the charge for a bottle of say Chianti, Valpolicella or Barolo? We like to know these things before we venture all the way from Esentepe...

graucho surely you dont drink Chianti do you? Cant think of it at the moment but will remember later en excellent white wine from italy later today when the brain is functioning. Even if you like white it should not share the table with a steak.

Rocky Chianti is a famous RED wine from Italy. Valpolicella or Barolo are also Red wines from the Northern region Groucho, Valpolicella is my favourite Italian Red. Nice to know we share similar tastes.

w26kay I know Chianti is red an easy name to remember and nothing special but ok for a budget wine.I did not say it was white although there may of course be a white that I dont know. I guess my message could have implied I was colour blind. I have not had time to research the really nice white I tried from Italy. But it begins with a C. In UK restuarants its upwards of £45 a bottle.

Rocky, I prefer red wines and I don't like ones that are too complex especially when I'm eating food that I want to enjoy without the wine taking pride of place on my palate... So I tend to go for robust wines with a good body, not all oak and too much spice... I like Bordeaux and St Emillion reds and wish I could buy them at sensible prices... Chianti Classico (look out for the cock on the bottle neck) has some fine varieties. To be quite frank I don't ever pay £45 for a bottle of wine... I don't think I ever will.
