An unlikely request, but does anyone by any chance have an email address for the Alsancak Belediye ? Even more unlikely, has anyone got the name of an English-speaking contact there ?

We live in the UK and have an unfinished apartment in Alsancak which we have never occupied and which has its water turned off, yet for which we have just received a water bill for YTL 153.00 !!

The bill will not be for water but is the council tax. it is added to the water bills when the tax is due or notpaid. We ahd this when we were out there. Also keep receipts as they can ask again and if you have proof of payment it is easier.

Thanks Bill, that's a relief. That's a bit like your Council Tax getting lumped onto your Gas bill over here - makes perfect sense ho-hum !!

Wow. They actually have a website I just discovered. I am impressed. Even found an email address - eventually. For anyone else who might ever need it :-info@alsancakbelediyesi.org.

Now all I need is for someone there to understand the words "I have already paid it" !!

just a thought> We had two payments to make one for a purchase tax which had to be paid before the water meter was processwed andanother which was the council tax. You may have paid one but not the other.
