HOTELS in the north are at more than 50 per cent capacity, marking an increase of 36 per cent since last year’s, Turkish Cypriot press reported yesterday.



The Director of the Union of Turkish Cypriot hotels Ayse Donmez, said that 2011 had been a very good year for tourism in the north, with a 7.6 per cent increase in tourists from Turkey and a 30.4 per cent increase in tourists from other countries.

Donmez also said that charted flights to the north from 13 different destinations had contributed to the increase, even though flights must first land in Turkey. She called for the organisation of more festivals to promote Turkish Cypriot culture and attract more visitors.

She added that as far as 5-star hotels were concerned, hotels with a casino had reached 60 per cent capacity and hotels without, 50 per cent. She also noted that the success of charted flights has been down to the provision of effective incentives in the transport sector.

Maybe all the people being evicted ?

due to mortages
