Whilst trying to establish plants rather than the plethora of weeds that have invited themselves into our garden, we find not only are we having to deal with the survival of the fittest ( weeds 1 Us 0), I have located bright green grasshopper lookalikes that are having a whale of a time on my citrus trees. As much as I adored Jimmy Cricket, these little blighters need to jump ship fast! So - knowledgeable friends, how do I muller them without killing any 'good' bugs? Oh, and are there any 'good' bugs I should 'nurture'?

Lady birds, bees, hover flies, dragon flies and centipeds are good bugs. Don't know of anything to kill the grass hoppers without killing off the good bugs. You can buy "bee and ladybird"safe spray but not sure if it works. You could try the olive oil and washing up liquid mix in a sprayer. If you look up eco friendly insect sprays on the internet you will find the recipes. Birds should eat those grass hoppers so try to encourage birds into your garden with a bird bath etc.

If you have cats, your garden will not carry enough of a bird population to keep down many of these insect pests - even bold little sparrows will be reluctant if they hear another birdie singing: 'I tort I taw a puddy-tat'!
