THE BRITISH High Commission announced this week that its passport “check and send” service will cease operating from September 1.

From this date onwards, British passport applicants in Cyprus should send their applications directly to the Regional Passport Processing Centre in Madrid.

High Commission’s Vice-Consul, Christina Smith said that “Sending applications directly to Madrid will provide customers with flexibility, allowing them to send applications at a time convenient to them and without having to come into Nicosia”.

Smith added that customers were recommended to send their

application directly to Madrid by secure means such as a reputable courier.

Asked which courier applicants should use, Smith said that while they cannot recommend a specific courier, the High Commission previously used DHL, who can be contacted on 77777345.

Applicants can inform DHL that they wish to send a British Passport Application to the British Embassy in Madrid for processing and the firm will be able provide information on the cost of the courier.

Up to four applications can be sent in one package, however passports will be returned individually and there will be a separate shipping fee for each passport.

The Madrid passport processing centre’s address is.

UK Regional Passport Processing Centre

British Consulate-General Madrid

Torre Espacio

Paseo de la Castellana 259D

28046 Madrid

The High Commission advises applicants to leave at least 4 weeks for the process to be completed. For more information visit ukincyprus.fco.gov.uk

How would your passport be returned? We have had a P.O. box for over 2 years and have only ever received 1 letter.

Thanks, Lesley

I believe you will have to go to BHC at Ni cosia to collect the new passport. It is the sending that has changed. You can download anapplication form from the net. full details will be found in the papers this week-end |I believe. Certainly in The Star, and I think Cyprus Today has already made mention.

I also believe that from 2013 ALL passport renewals will have to be dealt with in U.K. scarey thought, that!
