| i just wondered how many people know how and why the green line was born.
the story as goes ,top british brass at a table discussing the t/c and g/c violence one says to the other these people want to destroy each other,picks up a black biro to draw a line across cyprus ,the biro didn,t work so he picks up a red biro and that didn,t work so he picks up the next biro which happened to be a green one ,there you have "the green line" as explained to me by my uncle.i hope he hasn,t made it up his a cad like that.

| Not exactly correct.....The green line term is used to describe the dividing line only in Nicosia not across Cyprus..
It was established in 1964 by Major General Peter Young,commander of a "peace force" on the island at the time. |

| FROM WHAT I KNOW the "green line" called as well ATTILA LINE has been draw by the general Attila Savduring the war of 1974 with a green pen !!!! to divide the island FROM OUEST TO EST throught nicosia |

| Iceman has it. The green line was drawn with a green chinagraph pencil to mark the devision of Nicosia 10 years before the events of 74. As the term was in common use, the Attilla line also became to be known as the green line.
