I read this week that NI is a bit of a tinder box at the moment. Factions begining to resurface and local police being attacted and some pretty nasty things happening.

Turtle Not heard this but it would not surprise me! I hope they are isolated incidents . I have been going to Northern Ireland at least twice a year since 1987 . Seen and heard lots of incidents over the years but peace has finally come to the Irish people. and they very much deserve it! All through the troubles i didnt meet anyone who wanted it. But once again the minority spoiled it for the majority . Same as it is I suppose in Cyprus! Regards ronaldo

ron you cant compare the two. the majority of people in northern ireland want to be governed by a central government under the british monarchy, this is and as been the focal piont of the past troubles. northern cyprus is a totaly differnt kettle of fish (excuse the pun) theIRA and shin fein wanted northern ireland to fall under the control of the independant european state of the ROI, can you realy see the turkish cypriots wanting to be governed by the republic of cyprus?

Sinn Fein (we ourselves) wanted a united Ireland and is still their aim. When you say the majority....exactly what are the difference in numbers between the two sides???? (not a lot!) Due to catholics having to go all over the world to seek work etc, the majority now would be Catholic!! Also the outbreak in violence in 1969 was due to the minority of people following NICRA (Northern Ireland Civil Rights Assc) being denied to be heard (battered by the "B SPECIALS" and made to be 2nd class citizens in there own Country. I am glad the war is over (and will stay that way) and both side realise dialogue is the only way forward. A lot of people are still full of hatred.
