i think the oleander will grow quite big, which dosent need much water where as your herbs will, i think a shady spot may be better for the herbs, but im no expert just a keen gardener , i may be wrong ?

Wait til November if starting with seeds. A nice shady spot ( early sun and shade from house etc rest of day) where the plants wont be competeing with bushes which will take their water - herbs are best in ports - veg opk in garden! We've had basil in pots round the patio for 2 years now and still get bitten - maybe the wrong basil??

As message 2 said, Oleanders grow very bit, and they shed leaves. They are also VERY poisonous all parts so personally I wouldnt risk growing herbs and veg close to them. Also note you must not burn Oleander (particularly on barbecues) as the smoke is also poisonous.

I grow cherry tomatoes in large troughs in full sun, rosemary in troughs and garden - it can take sun and doesnt need too much water. Bay tree a pot in semi shade near front door for convenience.

I havent been very successful with other herbs. I would be glad of advice from anyone who has successfully grown the small English type curly leaved parsley.

And a gardening question from me:

Our tap water in Famagusta is rather salty. In these circumstances is it a mistake to use any fertiliser when it is not raining i.e. when fresh water is not available to wash down the salt?
