With the TRNC property market in decline, I had a thought...... Your home is finished, and it's time for your builder to sort transferring the deeds over to you. But in order to do so, he needs to pay 6.25% tax to the Government. There is no pressure from the Government to pay the tax/transfer the deeds, so surely any prudent builder isn't going to do diddly... Result - No deeds for the purchaser.... Be interested in everyone's thoughts on this one..... Nick.

I am pretty sure there are loads of builders running around in flash cars and living to an inflated lifestyle off the backs of moneys that should have been paid to complete some peoples purchases. Fortunately there are a lot of others who do have self respect and operate accordingly. I liken the problem you mention to giving a pound to a 5 year old. He know's it's not his, but if he can just keep hold of it ............ or spend it before mum and dad find out .................... My thought for the day: Just because you are not paranoid, doesn't mean they are not out to get you.

No Corby !! - your builder needs to pay his 6.25% too - if he doesn't pay, you don't get your deeds. I'd be interested how many members have received their deeds in say the last 3 months ?? Nick

CT, didn't see new thread: I wouldn't pay my VAT until the builder has paid his as there is no point paying out more if he's not going to pay. Also, I wouldn't pay it to the builder either I would pay it to the tax office through Advocate or better still personally (only way to actually be sure) and take a copy (marked up as 'copy') of the receipt to the builder for his records.
