Hi all,

We come for one week in hollydays, landin at Ercan Airport, end of december 08.

We would like to rent a (small) car, and to make a tour, if possible both north and south.

Are the car rented in the north allowed to drive in the south, or not ? Do I have to choose a specific firm ? Wich one ?

Reading a lot of post in the forum about that... but the answer is not clear !

Thanks for your answer, and sorry for my english !

Thanks for your quick, and clear, answer !

Going north for a week, I first planned to rent a car and then go around the north and south, but ...

I like quiet place, small hotel, empty beach, etc. I hesitate to limit myself to the north, or rent a car 3/4 days north, then 3/4 days in the south.

In your opinion? Is there place not to be missed, but not included in the tourist guides, local restaurant, etc ?

More specifically, I'm looking for small hotels / B & B / Guest-house. Do you have addresses?

We'll land at Ercan in the night (11pm). Is there a hotel pleasant not too distant from the airport, as I dont feel like driving a lot, the night, on the wrong side of the road for me ?

Thanks a lot for your answers.

Contact Oscars and make sure before you come over... that way you won't be disappointed...

Technically the south has removed the objection... in practice it's not that simple but if the rental company are happy go for it...

The south is definitely worth exploring particularly the Troodos...

Watch your speed...

They have lots of mobile radar units around the Troodos and Christmas is a bumper season for them...

We rented our car from The Rose Gardens, as long as you get written permission from the rental company, in writing you can go over to the south, we did.

It is all very well getting permission but remember you have no insurance and no recovery service fron rental company.

I will rephrase the insurance - you get the third party cover at Metehan. This means if you damage your car you will pay for the full cost of repair and repatriation. If you have a problem with the police - your problem to sort. If you are injured at it is the other parties fault - you must try to claim - FAT CHANCE.

Remember, if you were anywhere else on this planet would you hire a car from Herz or similar without adequate insurance cover? I doubt it. So why do people continue coming to TRNC and ignore all the normal conventions.

You will find my postings on almost every thread on this topic but as stated above there are cars every day crossing at Metehan. I just wait for the first fatal accident and then there will be the pleas for help and money to bail someone out.

My source, good friend owns a local rental company.
