*The boy, who cannot be identified because of his age, is thought to be the youngest rioter sentenced in connection with the London riots and one of the youngest involved in the disturbances that swept England.

It emerged that five days before the theft on August 8, he had been given a ten month referral for criminal damage, arson and carrying a bladed weapon.

He pleaded guilty to theft earlier this month after stealing a £50 waste bin from a Debenhams in Romford, Essex.

When arrested by police the youngster, who appeared before magistrates five days before the riots for another offence, claimed he was getting it for a friend.*

This is a boy of 11 years old.

Is this a sign of the future generation, God help us all.

My wife is an ex copper and the stories she would genererically mention used to hair my hair standing on end. Months and months of getting files together and the CPS just throw them out anyway. What's the way forward? Hands are tied for the police/magistrates....and it's not an excuse to use the poor social backgrounds of these 'unfortunate' young adults of todays making.

I think this was the case where the boy appeared in court clutching a mobile phone in each hand, his Mother went to court with him and on leaving stood on the steps and gave a load of verbal abuse to passers by.

I have no idea what you are talking about, I certainly was not a tearaway , chance would have been a fine thing with five older brothers! Why not keep your stupid nonsense to yourself.

It's necessary in my opinion to state that NO ONE connected to the illustrated message board http://www.cyprusnow.info has anything to do with the C44 member "CyprusNow".

Msg - so physical violence will teach him to read and write, give him literate parents with a moral compass, give him three square meals a day, and a roof over his head, stability and boundaries, and a job?

You couldn't make it up........(shakes her head)

Ms G I agree with what you have to say message 11 but being able to spell RIGHT from WRONG would not or ever hold anyone back from being a decent human being.

Not in my view anyway.

The boy should have been given 'six of the best' - three weeks consecutively!

His mother should have been soundly tawsed , and if she stuck her fingers up at passers by after that, she should be tawsed again!

Of course all the ideas of any physical violence against boy are totally illegal and cannot happen.

This is a very difficult situation for everyone concerned, and hopefully some lessons may have been learned from the Venables and Thomson case a few years back (but I doubt it).

Even though the age of criminal responsibility is only ten in the UK, do we really want to turn this boy into a hardened criminal ?

I doubt if he has ever been to school, and has no idea about right and wrong.

Dont know the answer.....glad I am out of it.

I really think that these facts are indicative of the start of the fall of western civilisation ! When a society loses its moral compass, it is the beginning of the end !

MsGarnet, there are, I'm sure, a great many other young people with the same lack of education, guidance and proper instruction in moral compasses who don't go out rioting and looting. But while you sit there pouring scorn on those who suggest a good caning might help, wringing your hands and shaking your head the while, we are left wondering just what you would suggest that may alleviate the problem.

Msg17,.

A boy who has never been to school, turning into a hardened criminal and does not know the difference between right and wrong in my book is a good starting point to sort the problem out ?

Modern society has created this ferel behaviour,... a bloody good hiding is what that tow rag needs

There was a case just the other day in Australia about a child with a clipboard around his neck...shaming him !

I do think this was going a little too far in that case ! But who knows if it would work ! Some people are happy to walk the streets with boards saying God is good...

I recall my father giving my brother the belt just the once as a young lad and that was all that was needed he turned out to be a fine man.I do feel that just the once can do some good.It makes one understand that authority is just that learning what is right and what is wrong..

I have also given each child of mine the slipper JUST THE ONCE..They both soon understood what my principles were about. Both are fine young ladies. I too recall this treatment from my mother,it did me no harm.

Respect is what is needed to be taught. Take away his blooming toys ! You bet they are the most expensive and only the best.

Far too many families wanting everything for NOWT these days and getting it off the. con't

Getting it off the government.I worked with children leaving foster care and that was their attitude and I am sorry to say they KEEP that sort of thinking..''I am owed ''.

A good strict upbringing and taught to work hard for what we want is the only way..Parents of these like of children need to be brought to the courts too..and punished HARD.

JMHO.
