Hello Everyone! Ive been looking at this site and see how helpful everyone is. I am making the BIG move to Kyrenia from southern spain, in the next couple of months and trying to sort some stuff out, any advice on these points to make it easier-cheaper?

.Moving with animals- We had two options, driving a UK plated car through france, italy, greece then to turkey. With the animals, 3 dogs, 2 cats? I realise they must have passports, vet checks, jabs, thats ok through europe but what about Turkey- advantages, cheaper maybe, and we will have a car on arrival, but how easy to change plates?

.Or we can send them by plane with a pet travel company, and we fly ourselves.

.My partner is heading out first to arrange the rental accomodation. So once we are here, we will need internet as I sometimes work from home. Whats the best internet company, and how long does it take normally to set up?

How easy is it to apply the residency, and what docs are needed? n e help or advice wud be amazing!

There are plenty of rentals available...If you import your car you will be subject to import duty, which is extortionate (be warned)..Internet options are not on a par with Spain....Easy to apply for residency, but you will need Blood Tests. TB tests etc...By the way, Residency is in actual fact a one year "Visitor Visa" which must be renewed every year....And what ever you do DO NOT buy a property here.

Hi Soon2beThere, We have had a business here for the last 7 years so we can help with your internet when you arrive as we are agents for eXtend and Nethouse. We can also help with satellite tv if you decide to go down that route.

Our customers appreciate the 7 day a week customer support that we give them and we have 100's of satisfied customers.

Your pets will have to go into quarantine here though I believe they only have to do 1 month (rules may have changed) instead of the mandatory months that they are supposed to do.

You can contact either of us on

Quarantine is normally a matter of days......and depends on the mood of the vets there to how long they should stay and how much space they have available.

You must go in everyday, to feed and clean etc

İts pretty basic and very smelly, just to prepare yourselves for that.

You must contact DEFRA for paperwork etc...

İ would fly them out, and be there at the airport to meet them......as they tend to just leave them hanging about for ages wıthout food & water etc

Saying that, most pets make it thru ok.

Good luck.

they dont do quarantine at all but you do have to get the paperwork from the veterinary diaresie. They will meet you at the airport or port on your arrival look at the animals keep the passports for 3 weeks during which time they will have to do home quarantine. Take your log book for the car to customs at Lefkosha and get a quote for the cost of importing your car then you can make an informed decision.

We have done the journey by car and it isnt to bad apart from the last bit the tasicu ferry. The only real problem we almost had was getting hotel accomodation in Turkey that allowed dogs they just dont view them like we do.

Internet get a dongle to start with till you work out which internet service is best for your needs.

In regard to your pets, as long as they have pet passports or other relevent paperwork and their last rabies serological blood test is dated within the 12 months getting an import licence for the TRNC is simple.

it is possible to have them flown into Larnaca and then transported across the Metehan border to the north. as you are coming from Spain you do not need to contact Defra!

One other possible route for you is a company called Pet Chauffeur, they are based in Spain and specialise in transporting animals by road throughout europe.

If you would like any more serious experienced advice please feel free to contact either myself (janbosley@yahoo.co.uk or Margaret Ray- kar@kyreniaanimalrescue.org)

what ever you decide upon wish you good luck and safe arrival.

Jamie, may be a coincidence and you had already contacted PetChauffeur (heard they are doing quote for 4 pets from Spain to here in next couple of months) or an opportunity to share costs with someone.

their email is info@petchauffeur.eu
