The once ubiquitous 60W light bulb is about to plop off the production line for the last time across Europe. But while its light may be dimming, it is still illuminating many of our homes.

Hold on! These new power savers don't work properly in ceiling fans, dimmer switches or those lights that you just touch to switch on or adjust the brightness... so what do we do now?

Wring our hands and raise them in the air as "many hands make lights work" ? Evidently, the shortfalls of the policy for arbitary change of lighting methods has long been recognised but nothing will be done to revert back to common sense as the tax revenue is higher for the bulbs which are inaccurately deemed "savers".

What will the cartoon creators do for a light bulb moment? A slow burn-in is just not the same!

None here. I let the Wildebeest change them herself. Do you think Groucho will turn the fan off before he fits the candles to it or show off and do a whirling Dervish stunt ?

DDog

The light is in the lower non-moving section and poses no threat... but I just wonder how many light fittings have transformers etc. that seem to make the low-energy lamps react in a very strange way.

We use LE lamps wherever we can but a couple of our fittings just won't function properly with them the fan being one.

Bugger!
