freswater Fishing in North Cyprus

Where in North Cyprus is Mersınlık resevoir. I cant find it on Google earth, is it near Tatislu. Any help would be great.

Are carp the only freshwater fish that you can expect to catch.

Firstly you will need a Licence, I think they are 70TL......Locals however are exempt ......If you are looking for GOOD fishing you are in the wrong place...tight lines..........

not sure where that resevoir is, would be interested to know myself, but i do know of two other resevoirs. One is opposite the Lara beach turn, and the other opposite the valley view restaurant, both are a short drive up into the mountains along a pretty rough dirt road.

And yes i think carp is all that you will catch.

Can anyone help ref fishing in the reservoirs we went to Girne council offices and have been tld it is ILLEGAL to fish them!!

Does anyone know any different or does anyone fish them?

pateli mess 1 .

mersinlik reservoir is the best freshwater fishing lake in northern cyprus . it has a huge head of carp and some are big very big ! i cant explain how to get to it as you need to branch of the new road just before the turning for the village of mersinlik . if you find this turning keep left and it will take you onto dam wall, i drive half way and park up . make your way down ( be very carefull they are big bolders you have to negotiate and thistles) thro one of the two cut thros and you will be able to fish here. its better to fish the pole or waggler slider as its deep . feeder is hard work as there are sunken trees that you get snagged on.



ive had carp close to ten pounds but ive lost some rite lumps . . andy

@ the fishermen above: More than a year ago I started a series of maps (all 30 or so reservoirs in TRNC with interesting details for fishermen), but there was very little interest to help me with information. Plenty of interest to download the maps I finished though...

So I quit the project because it took too much time to do it all by myself.

However I left the maps I finished online including a map with the location of all the reservoirs.

Fishing the lakes in the North is not Illegal, there are carp in the ones that have not dried up in the past 5 years.



You will need a fishing licence from the fisheries dept, if you are in Girne it is just after the hospital on the left going out of town, just ask about fishing ( Temiz Su Balik ) and someone will show you to the correct office to go to, I don't know the cost.



There was a couple of chaps who fished the lakes from the Tatlisu area, if they are reading 44 maybe they could help.

msg1 Any Fresh Water Fishing is subject to a licence, and at best you will catch only small/medium Carp...Course fishing as we Europeans know it ( many varied species ) does not exist..Boring but true ...:(

well thats how i found it and also the big lake at gonedere . fire up google earth and find sweetwaterbay tatlisu follow the new road east it is no more than ten kilometers from here on the right hand side of the road as you go eastwards . its ten mins in the car from sweetwaterbay.

martind41. you are wrong about this place . its very deep it must be spring fed as it keeps at its maximum level all year , only lake in turkish cyprus i know of that does hence why these carp have grown so big .



you keep to catching shite fish in sea and leave this place to the likes of me

having to have a licence and obtaining one is a grey area . i doubt 10% of the ex-pats fishing the likes of mersinlik have a licence .
