Was having a sociable drink with two friends and their grand daughter yesterday, when my friends phone rang. He wasn't there at the time so his wife answered. It was Paul Allard. When she POLITELY asked him what he wanted he realised who he had rung and hung up. When my friend returned we urged him to ring back which he did. When he asked Allard what he wanted, he was told he had rung the wrong number and had meant to speak (now get this!!) 'to a respectable George', and again hung up. My friend George was visiably upset and it put a cap on what had been a fine afternoon. As he is once again fighting cancer small minded incidents like this is the last thing he needs. It also beggers the question of Mr Allard (Mr used very loosely).....if you don't want to speak to 'unrespectable' George, why have you still got his number in your phone?

Mr Alldred i am the grand daughter and would like to thank you very much for ruining my last afternoon in cyprus due to this hurtful comment which you said to my grandad. I think anyone who has the guts to fight cancer for the third time is a VERY respectable individual regardless of who they are.

If you are going to make an accusation....make sure you get the persons name correct on the HEADLINE post or nobody will take you serious. I suggest you make an apology to Mr Allard (who is an active member of this forum) and a mate of mine, pdq.

Msg 6. Apologies to Mr Allard. Although I'm not entirely new to C44 as you can see from my number of posts, I'm not exactly a regular user/viewer. And yes theparson I agree, incorrect headline does not help.....schoolboy error !!!!!

Most of us have not got a glue what this is about and who the people concerned are? It is very confusing. An explanation would stop the intrigue and guess work?

Bradus and Britvic: here's the correct version of a twisted story. On Saturday last, I received a phone call from "Gary" (an existing customer of ours) who advised me that his friend "George" was interested in satellite TV. He asked me whether I would call in to see him, he owns George's Cafe on the main street in Girne - I agreed to go and see him. I called in and saw that Gary and Toni and Kevin and Helen were sat at a table and then, I noticed "George" who is the son of a very good Turkish Cypriot friend of mine and we know each other very well (at the time that Gary telephoned me, I didn't know who "George" was.) When he saw me, we approached each other and as we did, he turned to the people sat at the table, who had recommended our business to him and he said, "I thought that you said that this TV supplier is a 'respectable' guy," and everyone laughed as we shook hands and greeted each other. I ascertained what "George's" requirements were and I agreed to call him back...

with a quote. I asked him for his telephone number and saved it in my mobile phone. Next day, I telephoned George but he didn't answer, a lady answered and I asked her whether "George" was available, she said "No" so, I asked her whether she would give him a message - I said, "Tell George that I will telephone him from the satellite shop tomorrow morning and give him a price," she said "OK" and we ended the call. What I didn't realise at this stage, was that I had telephoned another "George" whose number I also, have stored in my phone because I have done charity fund-raising work with him for Tulips. A little later, I received a telephone call from "George" - naturally, I assumed that it was "George" from George's Cafe so, I answered expecting a little mickey taking considering that we know each other so well and taking into account the 'respectable' banter from the cafe on the previous day. I answered the phone half expecting a wind-up, I can't remember what was said cont./

by "George" - something like "Hello, is that Paul" so, I answered "Is that 'respectible' George" or, something along those lines, but I almost immediately realised that it wasn't the "George" that I was expecting. I panicked and put the phone down. So, 'guilty' as charged and I apologise if I inadvertently upset "George" with what was a genuine error. I checked my phone and I have the numbers of two different Georges saved on my phone - one in the phone memory and one in the sim memory. All this can be indpendently verified by the people concerned. As for the way that this has been twisted and portrayed - I will let forum members decide about why, but there is a clue in what has been posted already.

C44 is not the place for airing grievances against persons. It should be kept private and C44 should not be used as a means to attack others in person. Posts for or against businesses is another matter because it may interest other members. ismet
