I am not argumentative, but Turkey is just 80 km away,I think Greece 800km Did not the Turkish Ottoman Empire rule Cyprus for 500 years?? How long have Greece ruled this island? Was it not EOKA and ENOSIS that caused UK to leave? Were Greeks killing British soldiers to achieve this aim? I just want clarity on the past . Thanks Mike

message 1: looks like more opinion than fact in your opener mike... as I understand it cyprus was only ruled by greece for a couple of days, in '74, if that the work of eoka resulted in a lot of soldiers dead, but since we were about to enter a great de-colonising era, so britain might well have left a year or two later anyway: ...only it hasn't entirely left, what with the sovereign bases I cannot give pat answers about cyprus since I don't have the detailed knowledge but those that do will tend to see things from one perspective or another: and that statement itself is opinion rather than "straight facts" ...if they even exist now where were we?

Mike, i had a little arguement with a GC friend, so i did some research to prove a point. The first known people in Cyprus can neither be Greek or Turkish as they were people unknown. They did exist but thats as far as it goes back. Hence neither can claim to be the first.
