hi, finally we have booked our tickets, handed in our notices at work, are having lots of farewell drinks with family and friends, any excuse for a good old knees up! We fly out on the 2nd November and are looking forward to our new life in N. Cyprus, l still can"t believe it is actually happening. Mick will be working more orless immediately, l however am not sure what l want to do, l will be busy, gardening and cleaning our communal area etc., but l do this even when l"m on holiday. So l was wondering how long does it usually take to get out of "holiday mode" ? We both want to learn the language a.s.a.p. We have made some great friends during the last three years we have been visiting N.Cyprus and hope to make lots more. Just wondered if anyone can give us some useful hints and advice . Thanks.

Hi Tonip,

Fantastic news, bet you cant wait. where is your new place. My parents have just retired out there this week.

Has it all gone smoothly so far? What does Mick do for a living? Did he find work easily?

Good luck to you both.

hi tonip

for you to get out of holiday mode totaly depends on you guys

the best advice i can give you is never conpare things to what it costs in the u.k because you will go wrong (remember the average wage out here is between 500 to 1000 lira a month for locals)

also things like shoping its nice to have food that is english but go for the turkish equivalent always half the price and the same quality

dining and drinking out all the time unless you got loads of money

hope this helps and good luck with everything hope it goes well

Hi, thank you for all your kind wishes. JamesB, "yes" everything has gone smoothly, we certainly count ourselves lucky. We have a lovely three bedroom apartment in Girne, close to the Lemar supermarket, we are close to the ferry port. Mick is a window fitter by trade, he has certainly put himself about as far as finding work, it was a case of who you know and not what you know. Would love to meet your parents sometime. Thank you also Ukturk for your advice I did start buying the turkish equivalent when we was out there in August, and saved quite a bit. We"ve decided we will treat ourselves to a meal in a restaurant once or twice a week, there are some great very reasonable places to eat very close to us. Once again a big "thank you" for all your advice. You never know we might all meet up one day. I"m just glad l found Cyprus 44.

I have lived abroad on occassions, and it doesn't take very long. Its the way you start to talk or thiNk about dong things or going to places and it doesn't have to be in the next fortnight! You realise you can do it next week, or the week after that....or the week after that.....!

Good luck!
