Can anyone tell me why Taksi's remove their sign from their roof at the border crossing and use masking tape on number plates.

Hi batterboy58.

Could be awkward picking up punters,

and unable to speak the lingo,

Also may not be legal as a taxi in south!!!

Thanks, just curious, it was the first time we had crossed the border and were interested.

Did wonder after the recent riots whether there were any dangers to vehicles clearly from the north.

I THINK.........

There's a T in front of most commercial vehicles in north,

and most private No plates here have 2 letters and 3 numbers.

In the south most private number plates have 3 letters and 3 numbers.

If Taxi's left T uncovered, may be the same as a south registered vehicle.

These are what I think, but no doubt someone else will maybe know better.

The T is at the start of North and South Taxis an other PSVs.

Older vehicles in the South also have 2 numbers and 3 letters. The way to ID a TRNC vehicle is the red strip around the number plate.
