We were informed at Metehan that if temporary residency expires you no longer are allowed to cross within one week of the expiry date. Only solution is to cross on the date that the temporary residency expires and you will be given 90(?) days.

Spoke to a lady at immigration today who fell foul of this, thinking she was allowed 1 week, and was fined 60TL per day from date of expiry.

In and out of immigration in 1 hour today, definitely an improvement on previous years.

I was talking to a friend last week who has lived here for donkeys years and she has never had a visa just gets the 90days every time. She travels a lot and has never had a problem at passport control either. She has saved an awful lot of money.

Msg 1

Was that immigration at the police station or at Lefkosa? And if it was immigration at the police station, does that mean not having to get there at 5.30am to put your name down on the list?

Deniz1 - good luck to her, I prefer to live within the law of the land.

Cazleo - we were at Immigration at Lefkosa, went to Police Station on 16th August, got there at 6.45, finished by 9.15 having gone and got blood tests in between.

yopgi1 - that may be true but it's a bit of a bugger if you are relying on it and get caught out - thought it was worth letting people know.

Wife did her residency at Lefkosa today. They now want to see a Turkish Cypriot bank a/c with money going in/out. UK bank not acceptable? Police in Girne don't seem to know this.

That's odd Vaughan, we have never had to provide any paperwork at Immigration at Lefkosia, all the paperwork has been done at the police station. All that was required at Lefkosia was your passport for stamping, are you saying this is now changed?

I ws told that its the police who decide whether you get it or not Lefkosa just rubber stamp their decision.

Maybe but it was the policeman in Girne immigration who said it. all the paperwork we hand in goes to the next door office where it is checked and when they say its ok it is sent to lefkosa thats why it can take up to three weeks.

We did ours in July/August. Woke up at 7.30, got to the Girne police station about 8.30, was out by 10.15.

Three weeks later, again arrived at Lefcosia office about 8.30, out by 10.00.

I can't see the point of getting up at 5oclock, off to Lefcosia to queue to get a number, then sit for two hours until they open, which some had. Guess we were fortunate, but they do have a much better system now.

Happy days,
