A friend of mine was stopped by police in a roadside check on his new quad bike purchased over here.insurance tax etc all in place and was also wearing a crash helmet. He was asked for his document, which he produced. The police asked for his driving licence which again he produced and was then told he needed a tractor licence to ride a quad(he did ask when he bought the quad from a dealer if he needed anything else and the dealer said he had all the legal requirements in place)he was fined 1600 lira 210 points on his licence(3 months ban)and they tried to confiscate his quad.So be warned if you buy a tractor maybe you might need a quad licence?

Thought that if you had a car licence you can drive a quad, but not if you only have a motor bike licence...

What test do you take for tractors?

Driving along the lanes shouting "See that land? That's mine that now get off of it!"

Where would you go to get licence, with helmet in hand...

Maybe Yogo could point us all in the right direction..Please,as thats a very hefty fine ! and maybe could have been avoided if they have known the LAW in the first place

Outrageous. I have been told to always ask for a receipt when ever stopped...

It is true I'm afraid, we looked into buying a quad bike and it does need to be covered as a tractor! The road tax needs to be for a tractor and it is sooooo much more expensive than a car!

it's not just here i saw a program on the tv where someone went through a similar experience driving a quad on a beach think it was Australia but may have been USA. i know the fine was in dollars and was hefty. it was the same, he was lacking the special license needed and thought his car license was enough.

Very true. My friend has a quad bike and he had to take a tractor test. Drove a tractor round the police car park!!!

yes there are lots of quads driving around Cyprus, I bet none of them have the right road tax though, I can't imagine many people would pay the extortionate fee. I was quoted around 1500 tl for the tractor road tax, the insurance isn't too bad though. We just have a small quad not used on roads, the kids just use it in our garden !

These things are a pain in the proverbial. We live on an unmade up road leading to lower slopes and thes cretinous idiots with their new boys toys, roar up and down the road all times of the day and night, sometimes as two or three at a time. I'm just waiting for one of them to take a corner too sharply ad go straight into the ravine.
