I have been using Aqua Soft (now Aqua Life) for quite a while now, there was some controversy recently with this company and the Salamis Hotel with the issue of contaminated water. After reading all the reports in the Cyprus Today I decided to give my delivery man the benefit of the doubt and asked him about it in my limited Turkish and his limited English, he promptly showed me an official looking document (all in Turkish of course) and assured me "no problem". I have to say up until recently I have had no problems whatsoever with the water, but upon my return from the UK a couple of days ago I installed a new sealed bottle on my water machine and on close inspection noticed thick green algae on the inside of the bottle and lots of disgusting looking particles floating around inside it!!! Then I checked my other fully sealed bottle that was delivered and that was the same. My father had told me that whilst I was in the UK he had severe stomach pains and diarreah ----

(he uses the same supplier!!) although his bottles did not look contaminated. My neighbour also complained of the same symptoms (same supplier!). Great! good job none of my family actually drank the water before I realised! I did contact the supplier, he came to look at the bottles and just nodded his head and said "machinery problem" and said he would change the bottles. He never returned! So, can anyone suggest a good water delivery company?

No date, but they should keep for quite a long time, when you buy bottled water in the shops in the UK they normally have a good year on them. But this is the TRNC, different matter!

i previously used Kozedag but i had a bottle that was obviously contaminated but thought my water machine was burning out as there was a sort of petrol smell and we thought it affected the water. we took it off the machine and the water inside the bottle was very strong smelling and tasted like there was something like petrol. we ended up having to get another machine and opened a new bottle and it was the same so obviously not the machine after all. we had to clean out the water machine before we could use it. we contacted kozedag and they promised to come and sort it out but they never came. my husband contacted them several times but nothing. we have gone back to ev su and got them to take away the contaminated water and another unopened bottle we didn't want to chance. we only switched in the first place because they were a lot cheaper than ev su but soon after put up their prices. i will never change my water to another company again.

Thanks all. I did change my bottles at Supreme to Evsu, although I'm not that keen on the taste. I will give one of the suggested suppliers (above) a go.

Hi Msg 1

How long had you stored the bottle and where was it stored? Hopefully when stored avoid sunlight and high temperatures, easier said than done in Cyprus perhaps, cold water above 20ºC will be easier for the proliferation of bacteria so temperatures are very important to maintain healthy drinking water. With regards to algae in the water, this has most likely entered during the bottling process, so in a nutshell should not be there, I have come across this previously in the UK so get it changed by your supplier, if they are a responsible company they will swap this for another with no charge. Get them to show you the analysis certificate in English.

Good Luck

My supplier never returned with the promised replacements - that says it all really!!! I stored the water under my shaded terrace, the supplier even admitted that it was a machinery problem?!? So, no, it was not stored in the sunlight or in high temperatures.
