garden vac has just given up but has not had a great deal of use. Where is the best place to go and see if it is repairable?

Judy,

I assume it will be the motor as there are no other moving parts on a garden vac.

Probably the best people to have a look at it are the electric motor guys on the left (from Lapta to Kyrenia) around the Lapta Border area. Can't remember the name of the place, but they have loads of pumps, mothors etc in a shop there, and the workshop is underneath the building.

Bear in mind you can buy new in Homecentre for about 30 euros I think it is.

Had a problem with mine couple of weeks ago, thought the motor had given up, kept changing fuse in plug, still no good. Took it apart, and inside near the handle, is a piece of plastic that had moved which stops the motor going. It is where the bag clips on, the plastic bit on the bag pushes the piece of plastic inside that allows the electric to get the motor going. Just moved the plastic back to where it should have been and it now works fine again. Give it a try yourself

Yes thanks, will take it apart to have a look or rephrase that, partner will! Apparantly the motor is going but it is not in contact with anything so just making a whirring noise.

30 euros for a new one? Where is the home centre? In the South?

In the Engomi Mall, I think that was about the price I saw but it was a while ago, so I may be mistaken, but I do remember it sounded pretty cheap.

When the motor spins, it rotates the staor that causes the suction, or blowing.

If the motor is turning, but no suction or blow, check the stator (rotor thing) is turning, I wouls suspect not.

Check there isn't something like a twig preventing it.

Switch it off and unplug it, and see if you can turn the stator freely, if you can, maybe a securing nut is loose, or maybe the splines on the shaft and sheared. The latter is unlikely as you would get some rotation from friction alone.
