My turkish husband is currently in Girne and I am in the uk. He wants to send me some money but does not have a bank account in UK or NC. I have accounts in the uk with Nationwide, LLoyds and Santander.

What is the cheapest, safest to do it? How easy would it be for him to open a bank account in NC so he can do it by bank transfer?

Quick and easy for him to open a bank account here, assuming Turks are treated the same as Brits. All you need is a passport.

You will find it expensive to send money by Bank transfer from here to the UK. though....compared to the reverse direction. It does also depend on how much you wish to send. You haven't given any indication of the amount you are talking about sending ?

Ask the local bank that you wish to use about account opening & their fee before you open an account. Make sure they speak good English, so that you get an accurate reply. It's easy for misunderstandings to occur when asking Banking questions here.

I cannot quite understand how you have money here but no TRNC bank account though ??? I wouldn't keep large sums in the house, even in safe.

Do it by Western Union. Cost around 10% of amount sent. So for example, if you want £100 in the UK it will cost him £110. You can pick it up at your local Western Union Agent. Find yours at http://www.westernunion.co.uk and using the search tool to find your local agent. Tell your husband to send it to that particular agent. You should have the money in under 15 minutes.

The Agent that springs to mind in the TRNC is KIBRIS IKTISAT BANKASI LTD. They have several locations in the TRNC and all do transfers.

you can transfer money from here to UK at the counter in TURKBANK

without having an account with them

just ask what the transfer fee will be before you ask to send then you know

£5k costs around £30

you need account name + account number + bank name + bank address + sortcode

plus your ID
